Airline rifle case recommendations

What's my best bet for a decent but affordable airline approved rifle case?

The Peli cases look like proper jobs but with a price to suit, & none showing up second hand recently.

Any suggestions welcomed....

Peli are great but as you say they aren't cheap but you get what you pay for.
Plano/dosko aren't bad as a cheaper alternative with options from £40 to couple of hundred.

Peli are brilliant but Plano are also very good. It all depends on the value you put on your firearms. I have heard and seen some horrendous treatment of firearms at airports. I have a Peli but break it down to the trips I have done it was cheap. Every trip the rifle comes out and is bang on the zero.

That's a very kind offer & much appreciated. It's for a single trip - off to Scotland for two days next month to learn how unfit I really am! I'll drop you a PM to make arrangements, thanks again & rest assured I'll run it straight back after the trip.

It'd be a trip ruined if my rifle was damaged - worse still for the zero to be affected & a deer wounded.
Not having seen any of the cases I appreciate the feedback, I've been offered a loan of a case which will get me out of my immediate need & a chance to fly with a rifle for the first time. I'm hoping it'll become a regular trip so will be investing in a case for the future.

I use a Plano double rifle case. Ive taken 2 rifles and other kit to S Africa, Canada, Australia multiple times, gone all over the UK by air and vehicle, all without incident. Ive seen the case being driven over. When you need to save weight, Peli is not my preferred choice, just too heavy in a 52" case. If you have a take down rifle or can separate stock from barrelled action then a shorter case might do the job.

Norman Clark sells single and double plano cases for £85 upwards. Flush locks and handle is definitely a benefit when picked up by bagge handlers.

I use an SKB two-rifle case. I am on my second one after the first one was trashed at Jo'burg airport by a thief with a crowbar. He wrecked the case but still didn't manage to get to my Anderson Wheeler .500NE double-rifle inside. That case was some of the best money I have ever spent. If your plans are limited to Europe then you can afford to skimp a bit on a case; however, if you plan to hunt in Africa at any point, spend some money and protect your rifles.

They promised me that they would put their best men on the trail and investigate it fully. Funnily enough, I heard nothing more. Was in transit back from Mozambique via JNB on SAA. The airline didn't even pay for the case as I failed to report it in time.

But the thing did its job: kept a 20K rifle safe and sound.
