Just wondered if anyone could identify this boot knife.

boot K .webp

To give a bit of history, I bought it some 25 years ago of a school friend who’s dad was a Gurkha who made out that it had seen action.

Been hiding in the loft for many many years so cant remember the story, but would be interested if anyone could ID it. Says “Ranger” on it and is a proper solid bit of kit that I would imagine is military spec as its well and truly made for purpose.

Any info welcome.

thanks

I had a very similar knife purchased at a German military surplus shop in soltau around 2002. Unfortunately ten or so housewives since then and I can not find it not for want of looking. Very nice dagger indeed.

Blimey! I'm surprised you can find anything after that!

It looks like a Gerber but given the makers mark is deeply stamped and not etched I'm suprsied its not still visible as per below version?

Thanks all - most helpful. Do you think one could be a copy of the other or that mine is just a Gerber with no markings?

Only reason I ask is that Ive owned mine for over 25 years now.

Hi it looks like a solingen boot knife :british: I had one of these back in the early 80s

Gerber MkI was the original in the late 1960s.
Has an aluminum handle with a gritty Armorhide coating.
Other nice clones, as already stated.
MkI and MkII most collectible are serial numbered for US Green Berets in Vietnam.

As others have indicated, that looks very much like a Gerber Mk1 boot knife, very similar to the Winchester Rangers boot knife (I think that was much later though). Some designs I have were re-branded and made by the same company (I have a few branded Colt but made I think by others). Looking closely at the stamping, hard to tell but does it say "Rangers" on the top lettering?

Cheers guys

Yes it does have the gritty handle - will check to see if there is any serial number

And to answer the other question - Ranger is printed at the bottom of the blade

I have a Gerber command 1 boot knife for sale if anyone's interested, its in great condition. Do your own research on values before offering me peanuts...they are highly collectable, and will increase in value over time. PM me

I had one exactly like the OPs, I obtained it through the American military and ultimatley passed it on to a friend in the special forces, that's all I remember about it though it was a very handy , strong and well constructed bit of kit.

Nice knife, depending on condition and provenance a nice collectors piece.

Probably worth between £60 for well used non se No and £140 for top quality, maybe a bit more if mint.

There was a cheap 'Desert Storm' copy made to commemorate the op of the same name, think it was based on the same pattern although haven't seen one for years.

Used to enjoy collecting back in the day.

Going to have a clear-out soon of excess kit to help fund my 30-06, so open to offers if anyone's interested.
