Hi Guy's Any one got one of the new Tikka T3x Forest rifles one of our large Gunshops is selling them at a reasonable price thinking about one in 6.5x55
I can't find any reviews on the interweb, nearly all the Tikkas for sale in NZ are synthetic stainless, second hand ones have been turned into what the locals call
BushPigs 16" or shorter barrels with moderaters not my cup of tea I like unmolested Wood Blue riflesl,
So I thought some of the SD chaps might have some experience with them.
Cheers
Robert.

I had a good look at one of these at Gun City in Hamilton a few weeks ago... The only difference to the straight stocked Hunter for example, is the elevated comb monte carlo type stock. If you intend using a higher mounted scope then this would be a better bet. Other than that its just a regular T3X. Which means its a better buy than a Sako 85 ;). The Forest sits nicely in the shoulder / cheek in the prone position off a bipod, and the monte carlo stock would work ok in your chosen calibre, I wouldn’t want one in a magnum.

I never understood why they called it the Forest considering its intended use...

I have the Hunter in .308 Win, and my son-in-law has the Forester. He loves his the way it is. I bought mine because I got such a deal on it, and then got a deal on a T3X CTR stock and magazine, to make it into a more all-weather rifle. These rifles shoot very well ( ad do my 7mm-08 and .30-06 T3 Lites ). The Forester comb puts the cheek in about the same place as the T3X CTR stock does.

The name, "Forest" or "Forester", is used by other brands for the entry level wood stocks - such as the Steyr SBS 96 Forest.

Thanks dodgy I like the look of the stock the standard T3 stock is way too straight not really designed for offhand shooting my favourite factory stock is the Sako Bavarian
I can't afford one of those, the Tikka could be a contender going to a H&F store next week will see what they have

The T3X Hunter stock is made to work with open sights on some of their rifles, or scopes, and works well offhand for me with a 2-7x35mm or a 3-9x40mm scope, as does the T3 Light synthetic stock. If a cheekpiece and higher comb works for you, the Forester is very much like a Sako. ( My son-in-law has a Bushnell Legend 3-9x40 on his. I have a Sako L61R for comparison).

I have a Sako 75 in 7mm08 wood/blue with a 12x Leupold target scope I use for offhand practice with cast bullets it fits pretty good for that purpose
