Shooting with wrong mod (results)

Wildcat Evolution! I knew it would happen and it did, (TO ME) so wish the colour code on the .308 was a lot different from the .223 Needless to say I won’t replace the .223. Well I shot the dame thing to bits folks, put a .308 through the wrong one, it wrecked the whole thing from midsection to front. Couldn’t get the front off without a mole grips. I'm owning up to it folks I knew when I got it that I should take extra care, but I #@*&#% up.
im only putting it on here to warn others if I can do it so could you, be warned! Ok I'm ready for the flack bring it on! Be kind now I could of kept quite, anyone hear of it done before?

Are the bridge and your muzzle thread ok?
Next time use a permanent marker to avoid confusion.
At least you are ok. It could have been worse.
Take care!

Holy moly. Bet you got a fright. I am about to get a blaser R8 with a M15 with spigot. I already have a a rifle and mod 1/2"unf. I did think it's a pity they are not all compatible. They will both be 6.5's so wrong size projectile would not be a problem. However after seeing this I now firmly believe each rifle needs its own mod. Thanks for posting this, it is a wake up call for us all

I have 3 wildcats in different calibres and this has always been in the back of my mind as it would be so easy to pick the wrong one up. I use coloured key ring tags on elastic bands on mine, one on the mod and a matching colour on the rifle, easy to slip on and off when you are using them. Might seem a bit OTT but I could just see such an accident happen.
glad you are OK, makes me fell less daft in putting my coloured tags on

Wow. Was going to get the same model mod for my 30-06 as my 243. Had this in the back of my mind too so will definitely look at another make now.

Thanks for posting and glad your ok.

do not be put off by this mate, wildcat make good mods. .243 are green and .30 cal are red

Well that's a bugger..............but glad you weren't hurt. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, I bet it was easy enough to make the mistake. I use one mod currently for my 6.5mm and my 222, but if I do get a second one specifically for the 222 I'll be mindful of your misfortune.

Please don’t be put off it's a great setup, just be careful unlike me, I did see the same result as I got at Martin Nettleton shop at Martlesham suffolk, the importance of this post is this, I had seen it before but I still got caught out, I and others are proof that accidents do and will happen.

I have 4 wildcat moderators... took them to my local laser engraver who etched the Calibre on the end of each one. Glad you weren’t injured!!

I've seen something similar happen with a "one less Charlie" moderator that a friend of mine was using. He shot .22wmr rounds through a .17 moderator and we couldn't work out why what was normally a quite accurate rifle was scattering rounds all over the paper. Eventually it dawned on him that he had fitted the wrong moderator to the rifle and the .22 round were being swaged through a slightly too small orifice.

Having it looked at ASAP, still need to tackle some Fallow!

Good attitude John, chit' happens. The man who never made a mistake never done much important.
Kudos for posting, you won't be the first person to mix up the wrong component(s) be it be bullet or mod.
The main thing, nobody got injured. You won't make that mistake again but despite your post, some of us might.

Now that's a really good idea, I have four baffles for my Wildcat and have marked them with a permanent marker, but I like the etching idea more.
I have used Wildcat for some years now and really rate them. Used to use T8s funnily enough they all looked the same except for hole size.
I also write "L" and "R" on the bottom of my boots....
Steve.

Scary, just glad you are ok. Remember my old boss taking his son out with .308 to night shoot deer (licence in place, Scotland). He picked up bullets and loaded the magazine and off they went. The lad killed the first deer then missed four on the bounce. The old man was spitting blood and calling the lad everything under the sun for missing.
The upshot was that he showed me the cases the next day and asked what I thought had gone wrong. I told him straight away that it looked like some pillock had fired .243 through a larger calibre because the fired case was deformed. He then told me that he had picked up the wrong ammo, they must have gone all over the place and it was amazing how the lad hit the first one. Just shows how easy it is to make a mistake.

Last year i fired a .30 cal bullet through a Reflex T4 mod. that has just enough clearance for a .25 cal. bullet.
Bullet didn’t hit a traget a 50 yards, so don’t know if it disintegrated on route, or just went very wide.
No apparent damage to T4 and still using it on .257 rifle.
Ken.

Not got round to picking up parts for my 308,got one on the 6,5,thanks for posting,ps have you ever chased a neoprene mod cover off a 308 they dont half fly!
