Going Rate For Wild Boar Carcass

What are game dealers paying for wild boar carcass as I was considering buying one if I can source one? What percentage meat would you get from a typical shoulder shot carcass?

I recon to get 50% or maybe a tad less meat from the live weight of a boar. The boars skin and head weigh heavy. As Sikamalc and penta said, get it tested for Trichinella.

I was told by the vet when I took some porkers in that even though they test for it in outdoor reared pigs they don't ever find it as it's not in this country

Contact the FC. They will sell a carcass to you at dealer rates I'm sure if you're prepared to go and collect it?

trichinella is easy to defeat, just cook it well/ freeze it.

As i understand it there are several types of Trichinella. One strain is not killed by freezing. Very few cases are found in Swedish boar every year but I'm not going to take the risk of eating untested boar meat.

Thanks for the replies. I was told that most of the meat on wild boar is on the shoulder, is this true. I would imagine that results in a lot of meat loss if that is the case. I have also heard that a domestic boar has been released in the FOD to try and breed better meat producing boar. Anybody heard anything about this?

There are different strains of Trichinella and just cooking it well is not the whole solution. Any wild Boar shot in the UK should be checked. Although not currently in the UK, the last reposted case was in 1969, although a case was found in a domestic pig in the UK in 1979, I would advise anyone to check to make sure the carcase has been tested and cleared.
Just because a case has not been confirmed in the UK for some years, does not mean that it will not return.

I’m getting £2.40 a kilo so imagine a game dealer will put a margin on top of that. Try the guys that flog wild boar shooting on here as it is possible for them to get carcass tested prior to sale.

Ahh John you are forgetting That's due to after the fee to shoot one there is a 2nd income from the boar from the meat dealer  £££ , same as deer and i am not fussed with that as they have the running around when your on the way home with a big grin and pictures lol.
But then there's 3rd income if you include a shot fee :stir:

All those replies and not one addressed the original question!

Hopefully some one does as I would like to know also.
