25-06 for boar

I think In Europe 6.5 min but might be different where you are looking to go
however .270 min in Uk and in my opinion 25.06 is not big enough
just my thoughts

Is it driven? If yes then I wouldn't have thought that a 120 grain bullet was enough. Otherwise with placed shots it probably is? You will need to check though! Our thoughts may be irrelevant if they say no?

High seat I have a 308 but I prefer the 25-06 looks like il be taking the 308

Sika you will find that .25-06 will more than likely be a bit light on bullet weight. In all probability in addition to there being a minimum calibre there will also be a minimum energy requirement either at the muzzle or at 100 metres. Have you enquired with your host or with the national hunting association what the legal minimum is in the Netherlands?

Thanks for the replies iv decided on taking the 308

Sensible choice

I rate my 2506 very highly for Deer, but with Boar you need an entry and an exit so they bleed out quickly and a good cross section - which is why I use my .300 Win Mag purely because we have to use copper and the extra speed ensures expansion

A 25-06 will be fine for little piggies. But you also get 100kg plus pigs. I shot a Keiler last year 100kg larder weight. The skin was an inch plus thick over the shoulder heart lung area. They are big tough animals that require big tough bullets. I shot with a 173gn Hmantle straight through heart lungs at 70m from a high seat at 3am. It made one hell of a squeen and we found it in the morning 40 yds into the wood, but I could hear it squealing and thrashing for good couple of minutes.

And with a deer if you shoot in the right spot, but with a lighter bullet, you will cause killing damage and the deer will run off and die. Do the same to a big or even a little pig, they will turn right around and go for whatever is close by. And then they are very dangerous.

120gr Nosler Partition from a .25-06 will pass through a Wild Boar just the same as Big Red Deer :D and give a good blood trail if shot placement is right :thumb:

Or a highly interesting follow up if its not quite right.

Have a look at Boar shoulder shields

Boar are not constructed like deer. And they don't react like deer when you irritate them. If you are going to use a 25-06 use a well constructed bullet and be very sure of shot placement. Most places on the continent won't let you use one though.

:thumb: I'm well aware of how Boar are built having shot them in England and Germany ( Driven - Stalking and Highseat )
Before i had a .300 Win-mag all the English Boar i shot went down no problems through and through the Ribs with my .25-06 120gr Nosler Partition. Even when i needed them to drop where they stood a Head or Neck shot the Partitions went in and out .
Like anything else hit right they die quickly hit wrong no matter what calibre just like Deer you have a problem admitably Boar can seek revenge.

Tabok I'd agree Barnes TTSX would also work well from a .25-06 unfortunately after 30 odd years of using a 25-06 i no longer use one :(
