Three bladed knife

I have tried not to ask this question as I feel like a simple, single blade should be enough, and in reality it is. However, this has bothered me for a while now so...

I'd like a folding knife capable of doing 3 things.

1) Open up during the gralloch / open leg skin with a tripe knife style tip
2 Skinning and general field use knife
3) Saw breast bones / pelvis / branches etc.

I've found a couple which do this such as the linder 3 blade shown here but the saw looks flimsy and the handle scales look unnecessarily bulky:
Linder Classic Hunter III | Heinnie Haynes

Does anyone own a knife that fits this spec and can you comment on how you've got on with it? I should add that I'm not worried about food hygeine regs, this is for my own consumption only and I'm not interested in paying big money for something I will probably lose in a field eventually!

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I had a Browning Kodiak field dressing tool which had 3 blades - knife, saw and gut hook with blade. Don’t know if they still make them or not but they were OK. Sounds like that’s the sort of thing you are after.

Have a look at the Elk -ridge exchange a blade ,under 20 quid .I,ve had 1 four years now .The blades are gut hook ,skinning and bone saw ,and are separate held in the sheath so only 1 in a time to clean and strong and well made. It,s on the STS wales website as im carp at links atb

Victorinox, the Swiss army people, produce one that meets that spec, the blades don't lock tho.
it includes a cork screw and an awl.

I have a copy of the browning from blades and bows it fine, must have done over a hundred deer by now with it.
Bit of a faf to clean and stererlise but can be done. I just sharpen mine on the kitchen sharpener and is good for 3 muntjac legs and head off included which is were I knock the edge off the blade but it soon sharpens

Are Victorinox knives still made with a locking main blade (Mine locks)and, are locking blades on folding knives still legal to carry if the blade is sub 3 inches?
Ken.
PS. Same question about Leatherman tools.

Any locking blade is not legal for general carry, regardless of length.
(Having said that, I carry a buck 110 lock knife with me at all times, wherever I go, and have never been pulled up over it. It's in a pouch on my belt, so not even hidden. I've done that for the past 25 years.)

Nice knives, I have two of them and also had the larger Wenger hunter (Wenger own Victorinox) but they aren't really up to the job of gralloching a deer other than in an emergency. Incidentally I paid much less than that for my knives but it was some time ago and the prices on Victorinox and Wenger seem to have risen sharply in recent times.

mikeakc if you have your mind set on a three blade folding knife in addition to the Browning Kodiac II you could look at the Mossberg Mossberg Field Dressing Lockback Knife with pouch | SportingCutlery.co.uk

I do think folding knives are a right pain to clean properly so personally prefer to avoid them.

I do have a swing blade (Real Avid Viscera) which has a knife on one end and a saw/gut hook on the other, and would probably meet your criteria. Its a good knife and I like it, I just found the knife doesnt hold the best edge and tends to go blunt pretty quickly so I've subbed it out with a fixed blade knife and separate bone saw which is what I generally use now.

I also use a

, it has been a great knife however the screws in the handle have now started to come loose. Tried tightening and it appears that the thread has gone. When I get chance I'm going to tap them out the next size up to get over the problem

Its still being put to good use thanks Willie :thumb:.

I am on my second Kodiak and I rate them highly. I don't think the Brownings are still made in their original format though.
Also as Norfolk Horn says at post #10, there is a good serviceable copy available, which has done him good service to my knowledge.

Not all saws are created equal! Id've suggested the RealAvid Viscera, but the saw blade is too thick to be really useful, IME.A decent Mora with a David Stretton brisket/bone saw will last. Both easily cleaned, and you should have change from £40 if you shop around.
