It is a lot of money , but not that expensive compared to some . A few years back our Fish & Wildlife department made a special tag available for Trophy Bighorn Sheep in an area usually closed to hunting . There were at least 7 or 8 potential Boone & Crocket candidates in the area . The tag went up for auction . When the dust had settled , the tag was sold at just short of 1 million , I kid you not . It was a bit of a media event at the time , the hunter , not a Canadian but I can't remember the nationality , showed up with an entourage of about 20 people and caused a bit of a fuss . The money went to habitat preservation , a good cause , and other conservation programs . The kicker was , he didn't get a good shot at any Rams and went home empty handed . To his credit , he said it was an amazing experience and had no regrets . Compared to that , 50 quid a bird doesn't seem that extravagant .
