Help with species identification

At no point in the making of this thread where any foxes injured or armed, but now we know what we are looking for who knows? further clues it used to be one of Santas favourites before more modern times when rudolf came along and screwed things up,,,,,,,NO NOT A REINDEER !! a reindeer named ...wait for it ..VIXEN.

On Christmas Eve I was out for a dusk walk with the dogs. The walk took me through open fields and on the edge of woodland (mostly broadleaf with some conifers). On the way back, I heard a screeching sound from the woodland and I didn't know what it was.

Sunset was at about 4pm on Christmas Eve, and I heard the sound at about 5pm.

I've made an attempt to record it - apologies for the poor quality but I only had a mobile phone with me. I've highlighted the recording with "ANIMAL/BIRD NOISE" when I hear the sound.

All suggestions welcome on what it might be!

Here's a link to the recording:

Fox 100%

Happen they're not quite so noisy as a fox. I love the fact the lady in the second video wants to save the angry squirrel from the tree.

defo not a muntjac, I hear them every night and its so different, absolutely a fox, probably a vixen calling out letting the dog population know she's here and looking for a bit of nooky, hear it a lot this time of year

I can't believe the woman in the video wants to help the squirrel get out the tree! I know how to get the squirrel out the tree quickly

i liked her comment 'i was going to call the rspca but normally they want me to trap the animal, which is annoying' how often must she be calling about normal animal behaviour?
shakey
