With the right software/lead/dongle it’s possible to access and enable, disable or modify all those features on modern vehicles. Some might be more dealer focused but as an example, the entire VAG range including the Amarok, can be accessed with the free VCDS software and either the official lead or a cheapo non-updateable one from EBay.
 
I think I read somewhere that all new vehicles must display daylight driving lights. That's going to annoy a few people who are out at night off-road.

Turned my DRLs off with VCDS for that very reason.

I turned mine off on the Yeti the first day I had it. I think I read somewhere that the IZUZU won't let you do it, but that may have come from an uninformed salesman
 
I bought a new D-Max a couple of months ago and they said they would disable the daytime lights before delivery if I wanted. Instead I opted to install a small fuse box modification and now I have a switch that disables all lights including brake lights and interior lights.

If i was buying the Mercedes, it would have to be the 3 litre model with the OM642 engine we have these on our fleet at work in a Mercedes Sprinter out of 3 of these engines 4 of them have made it to 700,000 miles the 4th one is on 450,000 miles
the 2.2 litre Renault engine is asking for trouble, so if buying the Mercedes Xclass it's just a case of how many Nissan / Renault parts fall off before the Merc 3 litre gives up.

A mate works for Nissan. H3 told me to steer clear of the Navara due ti engine and mechanical issues which happen regularly. Timing belts failing... turbos lowing up and total lack of CS. The Merc option doea not appeal as it is an over priced Navara. Amrock is oft wlquoylted as one of the better selections but it is missing the bells and whistles and dlsafety featurs are well below the competition. I dont fancy Fiat as never had anything but grief with them.
For me I would look at a Wildtrack as I want comfort and tech first or maybe a D Max if I want less bells and whistles. Really fancy an AT35 but seriously... big beast and more money for no real gain other than Artic influence and springer suspension....
New rangers soon with smaller engines re new emission restrictions predicted.

Decided on the revised Wildrak model with new engine 10 speed box and suspension, etc coming around July hopefully.

Noticed there's a new Navara and L200 also coming this year..

Depending on what you need and if you’re buying new, look at the Isuzu in the extra cab format. 4 doors, enough room in the back for kids on the school run or a pile of riles & bags, dogs etc. All with the bonus of a longer tub for laying stags or hinds, which you may struggle to do with a double cab. All depends what you main use is going to be.

I can recommend the upgraded suspension have it on mine miles better than standard
 
Recently got a 2012 Amarok (first pick up) vast majority will be road use. Absolutely love it so far. When I get up after a nightshift, I frequently find Mrs Hod has taken it to work, which speaks volumes!

Very happy I went for it, the interior, design and extras are better than the rest imo by far., Ford sync 3 , apple play, park assist, lane assist, voice recognition, sat nav, etc . The interior is better and the horrible wildtrak orange part leather seats have been replaced by full black leather..The 2.0 bi turbo engine is rapid and produces 240bhp with a 10 speed auto box. I've never used it off road in anger yet as I have a LR Defender for getting into the dirty stuff.. Best pickup for features, looks, power, interior and price IMO at the minute... I did originally want a hilux but everything was more for basic functions, maybe more reliable long term and slightly better Offroad, but on everything else the new ranger beats it..
 
Swapped a 12 plate Hilux for a 16 plate np300 Navara. Very big mistake now swapped it (costly after 4 months) for a 17 plate Hilux.
Nav was quicker, more economical but too car like, bouncy off road, poor gear ratio's, mud trap arches, altogether too soft.

Any help on turning off the DRL's on the Hilux would be appreciated.
