Cost of 5 day antelope hunt with blue, blue ribbon trout fishing in the greater Yellowstone Wyoming area.

Piggybacking off of Johngryphon's hunting costs post. Any idea what the above expedition would cost? You could have a rustic cabin, 5 day fishing license, antelope license a place to hunt and access to several blue ribbon trout waters within a 45 minute drive for about 364 quid. Factor in your food, transportation, car rental and other sundries. The cabin can sleep 6 by the way, bring your friends along and make it even cheaper per head. You do have to have points for the hunting, you can read all about it in the Wyoming Fish and Game Website. It might take a few years to get the points but it is worth the wait. The internet has all the details at your disposal for nothing more than the cost of your time. There are also plenty of other places in the US where you can put together similar adventures. I'm not going to tell you everything though, finding out for yourself is part of the fun. One clue on the cabins though, Americas favorite uncle has the keys to them.

I'm sure you are correct, it's just that I wanted to stop off and fish the Snake by the Tetons but just didn't have time.

Whilst I’d love to do something like that....public land hunting USA, NZ etc....... like any foreign trip, the expensive bit is the international flights, internal connecting flights, insurance, transfers, car rentals, food, etc.
With the £/$ exchange rate being so bad for us at the moment and factoring in taking two weeks off work and I can see it would cost me another £3500!

Also it would have to be done in October, which is one of the best times to be home in the U.K. hunting.
Like most of us on here I can walk out of my back door, 5minutes down the lane and hunt deer/fox/pigeon/rabbits etc every day of the year for basically nothing if I want. I could walk to the sea in 5 minutes and fish any day of the year for Bass etc. for free. A rod license is £82 for a year for salmon and sea trout. Trout stream is 5 minutes walk. Coarse fishing for pike, carp, perch etc. is five minutes walk. I think it’s even free to fish in Scotland, not to mention free wildfowling on the foreshore there (10,000 miles of coast length) In winter I can walk for days rough shooting for pheasants, partridge, ducks, geese, woodcock, snipe etc. for free and not cover the same area twice.
With so much awesome free/extremely cheap hunting and fishing in the U.K. it’s kind of difficult to find the justification to do anything else!

Everything you say is true Buckaroo, I too have the same opportunities as you living where I do.
However, until you have hunted in the Rockies you have no idea what you are missing out on, it's not just the hunting, it's their culture and the people are great that keep me going back.
Big Ears and SJC off here came with me, SJC has been back on his own since then, Big Ears said it would be a bucket list hunt, I warned him it would be addictive, he is now planning his return trip with his son!
Don't forget, there is nothing that can hunt and kill you in the UK, it does add to the whole experience in the US hunting in an area where this could happen, great fun!

Buckaroo, you are a lucky dog. It sounds like you live in Heaven. I love the British uplands too, they are beautiful and remind me of where I grew up in the New England region of the US. Experiencing different hunting areas and game is most enjoyable though. The only way I can make my hunting adventures happen is by thinking outside the box. You could actually do a hunt like I describe for around $1697 or 1285 quid, plus the cost of taxidermy. Flight from London to Portland OR. $712, cabin 75, gasoline $170, 2 nights motels $90, Food $200, Ammo $20, tags $430, plus taxidermy. How is that possible you ask. Short answer, find an American friend to go with. I know that many British folk are kind of reserved, but it's generally not that way with us. If you make a friend on a hunting forum it is perfectly ok to ask about putting a hunt together. Split the costs and you have yourself a very reasonably priced trip. The prices I posted are assuming 2 people splitting costs. I got invited to hunt in the UK by a member on this site and had a ball going over. Now this fall (September) I am taking another gent I met on SD on the hunt I have described. I had made all plans and have all the equipment and was even going to loan a rifle to my friend, but he has added mule deer and is going to do that hunt on his own, we will meet in Jackson and do the antelope hunt together. Originally, all my friend had to do was pack a suite case and get on the plane. The biggest difficulty hunting here is getting the points needed to get a tag. We may in fact not get drawn for the hunt we are planning. I am about 95% sure that we will get drawn for the antelope tag but it is not guaranteed. If we don't get it this year then next year for sure. There are other hunts that can be drawn much easier, but I really want to hunt this area. Anyway, good hunting to all, no matter where you do it.

I’m well aware of how lucky we are here in the U.K.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’d love to hunt and fish in the western states, I’m sure it’s great, but I feel that to really enjoy it, I’d need to go for at least a month. It’s a long way to go for just a week or two. Especially considering all the additional paperwork necessary with tags and licenses etc.

Unfortunately, having a month off work is not an option for me at the moment either. The cost of lost earnings is too great, far greater than the cost of the tags, travel, fuel etc.

Well that`s a new one to me as there is a topical thread going atm re costs etc and it seems that for the mainstream bloke from town/the burbs there is an entirely different view of the quote extremely cheap hunting end quote as most generally have to pay for the privilege,a bit too.

700 knicker will get you to Melbourne Australia for unlimited deer hunting,borrow a rifle and ammo,weigh in for fuel and tucker and you have it even cheaper again,oh yes add 26 quid for a licence and that allows you to shoot as many as you want.

Take it from me, 2 weeks is plenty, you will be knackered, up and down mountains, wading streams, drinking in bars....next time it will be 10 days for me!
But if you wanted to go for a month then I agree that is a lot of income to lose.

If only you’d gone for a month.... perhaps you might have been able to fit it in.
I don’t like to be rushed when I go hunting or fishing. Weather conditions can play havoc with a short schedule. I’ve done 4/5 week foreign trips before and find it much more enjoyable than a short trip away. I find that I’m still acclimating after 10days!
If something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.
