BASC _ PERSONAL LETTER TO LORD DEAR.

How much are they paying you ?

:) All I have done is highlight the truth as I see it..
Training and events are lovely , but what’s the point in them when our shooting is slowly being eroded bit by bit with no challenge ? I’m sure your training will be invaluable when all you can own is an air gun ....

Our shooting is being eroded, how so? I can shoot the very same as I did 30 years ago? in fact shooting is more accessible than ever and to a wider audience? what have we lost?

The lead ban , the recent welsh issue , the air gun licensing , and the medical fees fiasco ? How’s your ten year very working out that basc sorted for you ?

Ok, so you are not a member, and you have asked this forum to see if you are alone in your views.,, how many responses did you get out of interest?

You cannot and will not change anything by sitting on a forum expressing your dissatisfaction. If you want to change things within BASC join become a member or apply to become council or go for a Job.

To my mind its clear you are unhappy with the management of BASC and decision that were made in the past, are you aware of what work they are undertaking and what positive things they have done? do you consider where we may have been had they not been there to do them?

And still talks to the man who nearly ruined shooting? I honestly find this statement strange, how did he nearly ruin shooting? when in your words all he was was the CEO of a self proclaimed voice of shooting?

I think they are doing better than ever, membership is rising.. yes there are things that we all want to see answered, medicals, wales review and so on and my understanding is that they are being worked on.. and we will se the results in the coming months..

I believe BASC are the best people doing the best for our sport, you are entitled to disagree and no doubt you will, But I assure you if you believe that an organisation is going to listen to a non member telling them how they are not managing an organisation correctly ...

Good luck with making BASC better by criticism ... that always works......

At least I have noticed and done something - look elsewhere and dont ask me for details that have already been posted in this thread.
Strangely I dont care what you think, since you are intentionally blind and rather stupid for asking the questions you have - dont let me bother you just go on your happy way and continue shooting as if nothing is happening. Have you heard of the 'mad hatter' ?

The lead ban ? I assume you mean over water? I dont have a problem with that.

The recent welsh issue is not yet finished?

Medical Fees ongoing..

Air gun licensing, whats the problem? yes its a pain for some... but we are still shooting

air gun licensing is in scotland

That response is what I expected...

I am not blind or stupid, in fact quite the opposite, but thats ok ..a defenceless man will always tarnish the discussion to distract from the points.. and thats fine.

Refusing to enter in to a discussion on an open forum that you started in my opinion has answered every one of the points I made.

Good luck with changing the world.. you will need it..

Interesting, I am definelty not a troll, just entering into discussion on an open forum and because I do not agree with you I am a troll... I will leave it there

No need to respond.

Terry,

I am as committed to BASC as you are: not out of choice but because I can't find a better alternative. No-one else has the money or the membership numbers to get their voice heard where it matters.

However, I do believe that they have underperformed quite shamefully over the past few years. I also feel that they treat those shooters who challenge them as enemies to be repulsed rather than as critical friends to be heard and embraced. Further, the dismissive contempt with which Kes, Jimbo, and others have been treated on this very forum by BASC senior managers disgusts me.

And yet, Kes, Jimbo and Co. continue loyally to insist upon an improvement in BASC's performance. They are the kind of friends that BASC (and all of us) need if we are to continue to get better at fighting our corner in an increasingly urbanised UK.

Don't mistake their (our) challenge for disloyalty: it is quite the opposite.

Kind regards,

Carl

Terry, How long have you been a member of B.A.S.C.? ................... and are you above the age of eighteen?
[/QUOTE]

I have been a member of BASC 29 years.... can you work the rest of your question out from that or do I still need to confirm I am over 18? :cuckoo:

Finn, 29 years and still an acolyte - says enough for me.
I've been a basc member for 4 years not continuously and because the shoots I joined/ managed were BASC affiliated. Most 'enquiring' guns I spoke to weren't members and two even asked me how often I thought BASC obtained free shooting.
Basc's record however would be hard to copy - there are however, those who are 'blind' and those who will not see.

No response to the letter yet.

Can't see the reason for your use of the screwy head mojy, ... It was a genuine question with regards your needs for a visit to specsavers , But now that I understand how long you have been a member & also probably a risk on the roads, Never mind.:norty: Member meself since the W.A.G.B.I. sign hung out in Watergate st.

At least you have some morals... are you over 18? :finger:

Morning all,
I have had a reply - not from Lord Dear but here we are;
Views on how to 'read' this would be appreciated. On face value the CE seems to understand but still worrying that maybe an over- reliance is placed on the numbers. Note BASC reads SD so no 'reasonable' criticism, no change ?

Well, it seems that with 15,500 dissatisfied members (outnumbering BASC council), the letter reads as utterly complacent, and patronising, asking you to re-join to shape the BASC from the inside. He states that he is clear on what BASC council want him to do, seems that CUSTOMER growth and retention is the be all and end all. Why not write and ask him to outline his plan on how he intends to fulfil the objectives given him by council. He knows which side his bread is buttered. The Council appoints him so stuff the members, he will be in post regardless. The new Ali?

Standard, polite, PR-scripted letter.

I think he is right about one thing, Kes. Please rejoin BASC, stand for Council, and represent SD members as your 'constituency'. I would vote for you any day of the week.

Kind regards,

Carl

Carl, you are too kind and I thank you, sincerely, you, at least, understand my reasons for criticism.
I dont think many existing members of BASC or SD would vote for me, judging by the views, or lack of, on SD.
I would consider re-joining but if, and only if, I could have an opportunity to change BASC - as a member I would not have enough clout and my only 'voice' would be at AGM's.
I will await others comments before I comment on the letter.

I would be seeking closer integration of those other orgs who have broken away for obvious reasons, I would ensure a 'challenging' BASC was created and bring an end to the 'them and us' view which currently prevails.
There are plenty of opportunities for BASC.
Interesting that though the CE states that Lord Dear and BASC Council have clear ideas of what they want of the CE (his words), he does not mention them or the 'direction of travel'. With no explicit mention of the key issues, no 'business excellence' approach to defining key issues and how to get where the org wants to be in 1,2,5,10 years, how is the agenda to be constructed and shared to change the culture of the organisation ?
Enough said lets see what others think first.
