Swazi The Hood?

Anyone got one of these please? They look good online, but I wonder what they are like in reality. More of a shirt, or a lightweight jacket/hoody?

Save your money and just buy a fleece. They are literally just that a lightweight fleece.

They are great, I wear mine year round. Nice and long around the back, great swazi quality. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another

Ive got one it's just a pity I've never had a chance to try it on yet, I bought it 2 weeks ago from Swazi and its arrived but I'm away with work so never had a chance to try it on yet, Bought direct from them along with a few other things so saved a bit money, not a lot by the time you add duty and delivery but every little helps I suppose.

Nottried the hood but have had some of their other fleeces and other garments. On the whole their quality is great, however, where their single layer non technical fleeces are concerned they are just that, with a nice logo on the front. I fully feel that when talking about their smocks and waterproof stuff they’re prices are sort of justified but the last fleece I bought off them I could have bought from the likes of millets or blacks etc for under £20 without the logo.....

Seeing on a Facebook group lately quite a few folks ( Uk) complain g about relatively new weeks old Swazi leaking 🤔

Hope they haven’t followed sooo many others down the compromise quality route

Thanks guys - I suspected that they weren’t worth the price tag, but I wanted to check what you thought.

Don't forget the warranty you get with a Swazi fleece.

Fleece Garment Repairs:
Swazi undertake to repair your fleece garment if it has been accidentally torn or damaged, free of charge, for the natural life of that garment while under recreational use. (Yep, you read that right). This warranty is subject to the garment being repairable and applies to the fleece fabric components of the garment only.

Having just been over to NZ at the end of last year and bought some Swazi kit the quality to me seems good and designs are well thought through, you probably are paying for the name to an extent as with anything.
Time will tell how hard wearing it is but the fleece I bought is certainly warm.

I have a Swazi Severn top which is my go to spring and summer outer layer.

After nearly 15 years of dogs abuse, it still comes out like new after a quick wash in the machine.

The quality of the materials and workmanship in each garment is more than worth the small premium when compared to other manufacturers.

Regards

BP

You're also paying for a family run business that makes its products in NZ and has stayed true to Davey's roots and his idea for the business. He could have sold out and made his gear cheaper in China but has committed to keeping it local. That is going to increase overheads so depends if you mind paying to support those.

That’s all very well ...
I have Swazi smock myself and some mid layer thin tops all bloody good gear

Bit there seems to be a helluva lot of folk just last few months all saying their very new Swazi stuff leaking

Paul

Thanks guys. I don’t doubt their high end stuff is good, I just wasn’t really sure about The Hood and how thick/durable it was going to be. Maybe I need to find one in a shop and look.

And it’s a long way to send something lower range to NZ for repair!

I think Bushwear are stockists, but not sure how much they actually hold in stock.

Any chance of some screenshots? Not seen anything like this but I don't read every thread so may have missed it. Got a few oiter layers from them and no issues.

If that were me wih a new item leaking I'd be using the swazi free return and replace warranty they offer

Just comments being made on Facebook shooting groups ..... someone asking if others have had issues with leaking ...

Quite few folk replying yes and common theme seems to be leaking in the arms of the garments.

I have the nahani smock and no problems ... also I have couple of the very thin jumpers as mid or base layer and I rate them highly

The recent complaints appear to relate to the newer type Tahr jackets leaking at the sleeves. (The older versions were made of a different material and appear to be more waterproof.)
Personally I find the quality of Swazi gear to be very good and have been impressed with everything I've bought.

Hi sauer

It might have been my post you saw on fb, I’ve had 2 Swazi tahr leak in under a year both at the elbows, had my back to the rain and it was leaking though , rest of me was bone dry except them, thinking the new stuff isn’t as tough as the old gortex as my mate has had his 12 year and he was dry, thinking about going nomad now

Had nomad.....not for me ...I’m a sweater ....even when fit I sweated .....I see no point paying guys of £300 £400 as some jackets are now and being as wet inside as out.
I’ve gone down layers route ....& a small rucksack or roesack and if a hike on jacket comes off then back on when stationary
Caorach’s system with wind proof smock is cheap and very good
