Shooting sticks

Hi guys im looking for a new set of shooting sticks. What would everyone recommend? Iv had the primos sticks before but they broke on the trigger mechanism. Im open to all brands/ideas but would like a set that will last.
Thanks guys

  • I started with twin sticks then moved on to trigger sticks all will work. I found the trigger sticks did not like mud, blood or rain and were less stable that quads. For me quads are quick, light, versatile and very stable. The more you use the faster and more flexible they become. They can be used as twins or as a mono if you need. They can also be pivoted on one leg if quarry comes from an unexpected angle without having to reset.
  • I started with sealand quad sticks after making a set of my own. They worked well but have a fair degree of flex and the bottom small leg locks are not secure and break easily.
  • I now have the new Viper sticks which also have good tracking left to right and the front yoke can be pushed out on friction when required. They will also work well from a seated position which is handy in an ambush. They are very rigid and stable. The carp plastic grips that stop them singing in the wind can easily be replaced with tape.

@oowee thank you for the very informative message. I think i will pay the extra money for the viper quad sticks hoping they will last longer. My only worry is deploying the sticks quickly in certain situations.
Many thanks

You get used to quickly deploying Viper flex. The Styx model (latest ones) have a little extra handle on them which allows you the leverage to flick them out in a hurry. Very reliable and super stable. As I said in another post, I bought mine from Best Deer Call. Really good service and a good bunch of guys

As above, I have the Styx journey from best deer and find them the best set I have used, the more I use them the better they seem to be but sure that’s just me getting familiar with them.

I used a bit of foam for insulation on my Styx (alloy) as they do tend to chill the fingers. Not sure how the carbon ones fair tho'

Vanguard T62U sticks for me: QUEST T62U

Configurable as monopod, bipod or tripod. Much more reliable/rugged than trigger sticks imho, and featherweight. Advantages are they telescope to fit on your belt clip or backpack and they have a panning head section. Can be used kneeling, sitting or standing and make a nifty rifle rest when on a break. I usually start out a stalk with them in the raised position for rapid deployment and when wanting to glass the surroundings. Took my last deer at 180yds off them. Wouldn't be without them now. Money well spent.

I would just make your own, I would never pay the price on some of the quad sticks around now. I am sure they are very good, but are they that much better than diy sticks from B&Q?

I made mine two years ago, steady as a rock, they are a little restrictive moving left and right but you get used to it. The set that luminus has a link to in his post are as good as any!

I have a set of Tony's and they are absolutely excellent. In fact indispensable, super stable and almost as good as shooting prone. They took a while to get used to but after the initial period I would not go out without them.
