Email notifications of Conversation posts, not including the actual message

I think that this is a configuration setting to enable, is this something that can be updated or was it an intentional decision that the message is not included in the notification email?

It was enabled but people kept on replying to the email, despite telling them it goes nowhere... so I changed it to show the title only.

That makes sense.

Could you perhaps look to reconfigure, so that if people reply to Email Notification emails, that the reply goes to a DoNotReply@ type address that will return an auto-reply error and send the email itself into a blackhole?

Thats a good idea, but what happens if the auto email doesnt get there, gets put in the Spam folder, get bounced because their email it full, get bounced back saything they are on holiday etc. :D

I was wondering if this was something that could have been enabled. Any chance of letting it become a user selectable option?

Why though? If you are online to get the email then you are online to click it and read it on SD? The only thing I can see is if you don’t want people being sure you’ve been online and could read it! ;)

Since making that change only one person has replied to the email... god knows why he has replied but you get all sorts! :cuckoo:

Because my phone automatically downloads e-mails and having to open a browser to wait for the site and all the extraneous HTML gubbins to load not only uses a lot of mobile data but also takes quite a lot of time. It also gives me the ability to search for a saved post in Gmail. Thirdly, my work Wi-Fi blocks shooting sites so can't view replies online anyway.

Can the reply e-mail just be a /dev/null sort of deal without having to bounce it back? It's quite clear that you don't reply to the e-mail

It really doesn’t take extra time to click one button these days. I do agree it’s handy having the extra info offline though.

Essentially there is no halfway... either we stick to this way or we go back to emailing the entire message but with some messages lost through people replying into the void.

There might be something more we can do in terms of redesigning the email... but I don’t know what!

Phones are for making phone calls and taking care of emails, they are not for looking at forums.
If they were meant for forums they would have 12 inch screens.

Neil.

Surely people will learn that their messages are disappearing into the void when they don't appear on the site?
