New Stalking Rifle

Brother was told exactly the same when trying to place an order for .243 CTR 6-9month wait. So went with the stainless super varmint instead.

I've enquired about the varmint model too. Currently waiting for the RFD to get back to me. Currently looking at the Mauser 12 and 18, Tikka Varmint and a Bergara B14 sporter varmint.

After all of my decision making and research over the last month or so, I'm back to square one. Just my luck

I had the tikka super varmint (didn't like the stock at all) and shot both the bergara and Mauser M12impact, personally out of those 3 Id go for the mauser, lovely rifle. well worth trying them out for your own preference though as they're all good rifles.

What didn't you like about the stock?

I have undertaken two attempts to spend some serious money on Sako rifles. I never succeeded because of ridiculous delivery times of up to a year which in the end where not even kept.
With Blaser three months are three months. Guess what I am shooting.
Unless they send a 6.5x57 when you ordered a 6.5x47

flexed too much for my liking and just didnt feel or fit right, easy to change though (I changed to a PSE), in the end got rid of the rifle as it was too heavy and cumbersome as a stalker (I primarily use a Schultz and Larsen and a sauer 101 as main stalking rifles now). The Mauser stock I like, and the Bergara HMR stock is almost perfect for an NV foxing rifle imo. its all personal though, what fits me or I like, won't necessarily work for anyone else.

Interesting point, I love the HMR but it's just too heavy to stalk with I feel. I think the M12 impact is on the cards for sure. Just have to find out lead times and everthing

been stalking 16 years with a tikka t3 in 243 have taken well over hundred fallow the odd red. but knowing what i know now would go for 308 .mine a heavy barrel stainless varmint i just got used to the weight

I bought a mauser m12 impact in 243..and i had a sako before that..the mauser is to me a superior rifle in every way...so much so i went and bought a m12 impact in 308!.they are super accurate and handle perfect.

My last rifle, bergara hmr in 6.5 creedmoor...
Great rifles for the money and being Remington 700 footprint, endless upgrades available...
I put mine in a grs bifrost stock and upgraded the trigger to a timney..

I own an hmr and with a tier one rail and rings delta stryker scope, dpt mod, it weighs loads, I didn't think it would be a problem walking with it, but after using my tikka t3x ss varmint with the same rail and rings but with a Zeiss conquest and stalon mod and also not being the lightest tikka, it's just ridiculous the weight of the hmr compared to the tikka, if I'm going to a highseat yes the hmr comes into it's own, but i will be looking for a lighter bigger calibre rifle now. Love the stock of the hmr though, don't like the tikka stock.

I put my HMR in a grs bifrost stock, helped with the weight a bit..

I've been enquiring overseas for a carbon A3 sporter stock for a short action remmi 700 which should fit the hmr, I've just got news back stocky's in America they don't post to the uk, still looking for the same stock in blighty :( Also sorry don't mean to hijack thread

No worries man, I've my eye on a couple of stock for my .22 rimfire but same as yourself, its hard to find distributors that will ship this far.

I have a Tac A1 in 6.5 creedmor and a T3 lite 308 in PSE composite stock. Next one I’m buying is definitely the CTR in 308. Not overly heavy and around €1300 blued. Not going to moderate it and with quick release mounts to swop between a light 8x56 and something more target oriented.
I’m in Southern Ireland so 308 round variety and availability is a selling point.

Indeed. I tried to buy a LH Sako a coupla three yrs back and was told it would be 6-9 months and despite being prepared to pay a deposit or even the balance if necessary, I was also advised the price might have gone up by the time it was delivered and that I would have to pay the difference.. Ha ha ha, I literally told them where to shove it and promised myself that I will never buy a Sako or Tikka rifle new. I would look at the older ones (which seem better by all accounts anyway) but no chance would I give them money when they quite clearly are only interested in their own business practices rather than actually looking after customers. They should be doing both, not just one.

I ordered my tikka in left hand and it was here within the week perhaps just lucky but would hesitate or buying another I love mine
