1st Roe trophy

Evening chaps,

I have finally got round to cleaning my first roe buck skull and I must say I’m chuffed to bits with it!

It took me until 2am Wednesday morning but I got there In the end!

He’s a cracker, but personally I’d have left him whole for measuring rather than cut for now, he looks a fair weight?

It’s not too late, and being cut doesn’t stop it from being done just means they make assumed deductions rather than having the benefit of the full skull

Thanks deerstalker for your advice! I don’t even know where to start in regards to scoring etc I assume I need to take it to a game fair that offers this? As opposed to sending it away?

nice buck and well done. I'm not sure it will make bronze so don't beat yourself up ;)

on the CIC's website there's a rough guide to dry weights needed to make medal classes in relation to the type of skull cut..so get the mrs kitchen scales out ;)

that's an unusual antler colour,,did you stain it?

He was shot in a wheat field last year, surrounding areas always wheat or barley , also maize covers near, woods have fern, oak etc. I wouldn’t know where he was fraying to be fair .

I just weighed it and it’s 450g exactly minus the 65g = 385g as stated on the CIC website for a long Nose cut. So no bronze as you already expertly analysed!

Cracking buck. Looks like he would have a lot of displacement because he's so thick. Shame you cut him as I think right on it cusp of bronze with that thickness. Might be worth a measure anyway. Either way great trophy.
