My visit from the FEO went well today for the grant of a FAC. Pleased to say, she granted me a .22 rim fire and a .243. Very pleased with the outcome with a very pleasant FEO.
She did say that as from April 1st next year, all grants and renewals for Shotgun and Firearm certs, in Wales, must be accompanied with a report from your GP.

Chip, chip chip and BASC said blahhh ,mm anyone got a 10 year FAC ,no anyone got a doctor that doesnt want 2 kidneys and a spleens worth of dosh to sign a letter ,anyone think BASC should start spending their 8 million reserves on some legal challenges or juidicial review ???As they agreeing to this medical farce has caused misery and chaos to many with no issues other than a doctor anti,a doctor totally going aginst what was agreed by the BMA

Unfortunately I've been told this week that Sussex have left good sense and reason at the door and now will not be processing new applications/renewals without a GPs letter.

Letting the GP decide on whatever fee they want depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Well if any of you are up for trying again, by making a complaint against your chief constable via the crime commissioner office, I can help, I learnt a lot from my failed attempt and think I should have constructed and included more detail in the Crime Commissioners complaint as the IOPC only look to see if they followed the complaints process correctly they do not reopen or look at the original complaint.

Otherwise we just have to sit back and take it and the chief constables know that.

Another idea would an e petition be any benefit? We need the issue out in the open to some how get the general public onside a big ask I know.

I look back at Posts about this subject and how many folks in the South thought Oh well were ok down here its just for you lot in Jockland to deal with.
Coming home to roost for all of us now unfortunately.
At least where I live in a rural community the docs are sensible about the situation and its 50 quid job done.
I`m certainly not pleased that this is biting us all in the bum now maybe just another example of being careful about the " I`m alright " syndrome.

The history of shooting in this country has been divide and conquer so many times, we need one shooting organisation representing all types of shooting in this country together we would be stronger, but cannot see it ever happing.
Like the USA NRA.

My feelings exactly.

BASC already gave this away as an idea and a concept in their negotiations for a 10 year cert. Sadly for everyone concerned but especially the general public the whole fiasco is being implemented piecemeal and unsatisfactorily with no overall benefit public safety benefit and excepting a 'perceived' reduction in the cost of medicals to the Police. No marker and a cost of quite substantial proportions to the shooting community as a whole, impacting most on the young and the less well-off.
Not the biggest own goal for BASC but probably the costliest for its members - even more need to see the legal advice they MIGHT have been given.

Surely qualifies for a 'BASC welcomes proposals to improve public safety' ?

The difference being that there was no Guidance for the implementation of the Medical Evidence Scheme ever issued for north of the wall. It was therefore difficult for a challenge to be mounted once the police decided to go away from what had been agreed. A quick look at the HOG chapters 10 & 11 and the extensive instructions in Appendix 11 on how the scheme should be applied, shows how far the E & W CCs have deviated from what was laid down and gave scope for challenge(s) to be made. Sadly that was never actioned as the 'political' route was preferred.

I don't believe that what you refer to as the the 'I'm alright syndrome' necessarily applies to a north/south divide, more appropriately to some organisations, which purport to represent shooters interests, that have their heads in the sand and don't appear to appreciate the looming threats to us all. S55A Firearms Act 1968 (as amended) is something that was allowed to pass into law and will give the police, with a compliant Home Secretary/Home Office, the ability to write and enforce whatever they want. You can almost hear those copies of the 1972 McKay Report being dusted off. :(

I don't want to start a who said what or keyboard battle here. But I am sure that in the past threads on this subject quite a few posters had a somewhat smug attitude to what was going on up here and the others who said " I will never pay ".

Has that really happened yet, we will have to pay, you point out very well the Guidance not implemented in the North, the lack of action by Shooting organisations and so on

You have obviously studied the official published papers far more diligently than myself I was just commenting on what I had seen on SD.

Scotland has been used in the past as a guinea pig for introduction of potentially unpleasant changes ie Rates to Community Charges.

BTW I`m an exiled Londoner but absolutely love living in the land of the Heathens :stir:

They are keeping the 8 million in reserve for possible legal action against alleged non existant rasist comments they think have been made against them.

My renewal comes up next year - just before my BASC renewal - if I have to have a doctors letter then I think I might explain to BASC that I am going to use their membership fee to cover the doctors fee for the letter - if a fifth of 140000 of us did this every year I think it might get their attention and make them try harder

Ladies and gents, may I ask why it is always BASC's fault? Do the other organisations have more success with every shooting matter/issue we have to debate?

And we could have worst to come yet, given the suggestion that the police want to also be able to check your finances to make sure you are not potentially suicidal.
So you will need a doctors report and an accountants report.

What’s next?
