Who the should any of us vote for?

I was out last night celebrating the Beaujolais Run in a lovely little French restaurant in N16. We were the guests of a good friend who's seriously wealthy and on the table around us were 12 people with the combined wealth of a small country. So imagine my surprise when the conversation turned to the election and the general consensus was the only possable vote was a vote for Labour????

There was an expert there in political history from Burnell university who outlined the scenario in such a clear cut & simple way I was quite surprised no one else had picked up on it. Put simply he said, we cannot simply revoke article 50 and expect the problems to go away. So the Lib Dem concept of doing so is not workable. We can not do a deal with the EU as we are not in a position to make any demands past what we have already achieved and the Irish back stop situation is simply impossible to fix. The alternative No Deal option is disastrous, so not worth contemplating. So the only workable solution is another tweak of the existing deal, explain it to the public with its pros and cons fully exposed and put it to another referendum. We take the crap deal and risk posable melt down in Ireland and Scotland along with likely collapse of GB as we know it, or we remain in the EU.

The hard line Brexit voters will never be dissuaded. They'd happily see the country burn to ash than accept failure, but IF a majority of people accepted the only way forward was to remain in the EU, then some form of democracy will have been served and disaster obverted. Alternatively, if they vote for the deal, we risk massive internal turmoil but at least economic meltdown will have been overacted and when the reality of our suffering sinks in, the govt can simply say, that's what you voted for and we did it.

Of course they could have done this on the last referendum but lets remember no one thought wed be mad enough to vote leave so they were not prepared for the result. The reality of a bad deal or no deal was so awful they have been playing expectations management ever since

I was in the canteen at work on Friday eating a sandwich with other poor working people and the sky news was on with the idiot worzel gummidge and his chums being abused by the people of Walsall for being an IRA lover and not going to the memorial service for the victims of the Birmingham pub bombings when my Friend said what a cnut how can anyone vote for this worm .
Betrayed over brexit ,lied to publicly and his fantasies over tax and spend led to about 2 dozen agreeing you wouldnt let him run a bath never mind ruin Britain ,suppose its different for the champagne socialists By the time Nige had finished he was glowing with anger but everyone agreed with his thoughts on Jezza ,Wee Jimmy and that who are you from the lib dums

I have a modest understanding of Economics

My economics are pretty tory based trickle down economy sort of thing. I am a big fan of Jean Baptiest Colbert and Adam Smith, but despite that, id be interested for you to briefly outline any single labour policy which would have this disastrous effect of which you speak and why you believe it would??

Your blanket generalisation of the failure of their plans seems a little sensationalist IMHO

Historicly, business has always done well in the initial years of a Labour government as the purse strings on public spending are thrown away.

Lab policy 1 increasing taxation amongst the top "5%".... Stupidity in the highest form the super rich will always pay less tax as they have resources to move offshore dispose as they see fit. Therefore that will remove a huge chunk of "funding" for their utopia and also see businesses leave the UK as CT raises up to a ludicrous 26%. Therefore to make up the shortfall they either borrow more or tax the 95% stifling growth and consumer spending.
Lab Policy 2 Removing Investment Entrepreneurs relief this is currently available to all and is a way of making an investment into a company to generate returns and create jobs associated with that company. For many start ups SEIS/EIS are invaluable funding routes and without this R&D and innovation will be stifled.
Lab Policy 3 Up to 50% tax rate on financial services transactions. This will kill the city of London and again force FS industry which is the UKs powerhouse offshore and would be catastrophic for jobs and also tax credits to the state. Breaking up companies like KPMG Deloitte etc as well.
Lab Policy 4 Second EU Ref will cause nothing but stagnation and uncertainty as the world econicially slows down. This would be a catalyst to disaster.
Lab Policy 5 Raising minimum wage. Its just a tax on businesses again pointless.
Lab Policy 6 Renationalise industries. Just a complete crock of **** requiring limitless funding. ( Estimates are huge)

Thats before we even get onto ridiculous budgetary claims about green, education, health and social care. 6 points all massively dangerous to the UK. Corbyn is a total mug!

The only people who can seriously comprehend voting for a Corbyn based government are those with absolutely bugger all who feel entitled to a free lunch or those who have something but are greedy and feel that they haven't achieved quite enough in their lives to provide the education, healthcare, nice house etc they desire for their families and its all somehow the states fault so therefore the tax payer should pick up the tab.

Not so sure about that, there are also those who feel the so called youth of today who don't know anything except Tories in charge should actually get to find out just how bad it really can be with Labour in control.

More importantly, for me at least is not being able to vote for who I want because of underhand deals between parties.
I will not in a million years vote Tory, but Im not to be allowed to vote Brexit as I live in a so called safe tory district.
Now no matter who I vote for out of what is left i'm actually voting Tory

Neil.

Yup. I know that feeling!
It's like the rug is pulled from under you.

Tried a glass of this year's Beaujolais Nouveau in Versailles market this Sunday just gone. The taste was like liquid mud.

I'm hoping the bottle of it I bought from "Nicholas" at Bercy Village will filled with better tasting stuff.

Yes, S, I was disappointed. I asked the guys at the "Nicholas" if they'd a traditional really fruity "recolte" and they sold me a bottle of their own label or house 2019 vintage.

Some here keep strange bedfellows indeed. Simon Heffer the fat toad that caused my mother to cancel permanently her daily Daily Telegraph.

Here's why:

Heaven forbid that a mere taxi driver should be allowed to own a gun...

Another supercilious turd of the "nobody not of my class should own anything that I don't (and then only for what I do) and then only under the strictest of rules" school of belief.

This is some of what Heffer thinks:

What most astonishes me about Bird’s case is that he was allowed to own a .22 rifle. These weapons do not merely kill at close range, as we saw on Wednesday. They can also drop a bullet up to two miles away, and God help anything or anyone who happens to get in the way.

To my mind, unless one either owns a sporting estate with deer stalking, manages one, or has shooting rights over one, there is almost no reason at all to have a firearms licence.

As should have happened with handguns – whose competitive shooters have to go to France to practise – rifles used by bona fide shooting clubs for target shooting should be kept in central police armouries, and used only under police supervision.

However, even if it continues to astonish that a taxi driver was given a firearms licence without penetrating questions being asked about why he needed it, there still remains the question of shotguns.

Utterly deluded, so the the fact that your imaginary circle of friends has the combined wealth of a small country we are talking about the gathering of the UKs billionaires and there was Chasey as a guest of honour
They were so wealthy they decided that the only way to vote was labour because they could afford to lose a small fortune:rolleyes:

I'm pretty sure if such a collection of the UKs wealthiest was in a restaurant in N16 (obviously the new Mayfair) the press would have noticed out of interest where did their security teams reside when this was going on. I smell BS especially when you claim "a good friend invited me" and they "were seriously wealthy".

Hornet 6 said "Not so sure about that, there are also those who feel the so called youth of today who don't know anything except Tories in charge should actually get to find out just how bad it really can be with Labour in control."

Here's how to do this quickly and before the election:

1) give them a task, e.g. Ask them to clean the bathroom.

2) pay them £10 for their work;

3) then take £7 back off them and give that money to the neighbours kids, who did bu&&er all.

Now they know how the system would work under Labour :tiphat:
