Bought 2nd hand kit and came with Hodgdon and Alliant powders, use/sell or bin??

I just recently purchased a 2nd hand reloading kit, I have never reloaded before but I have a good mate who is going to keep me right on that front. Before I get my room set up to begin in the New Year I want some advice on what to do with the 2 x tubs of powders that came with the kit. Both have been opened but very little used (if any) from either tub. I will be reloading for my Sauer 90 in .243 and not sure if I should give the powders a go or just sell them or bin them and start a fresh? Maybe folks would be interested in them as I think at least one of them is no longer available?
The powders are Alliant Reloder7 and Hodgdon Varget Extreme.
Appreciate any advice!

I'd check the data book for suitability. If ok use them to get the hang of working up own loads etc. Bound to spill a case or something so make your mistakes with free

if you are sure they are what you think then check the load data, but you are trusting some one else not to have changed the powder, if they have you could loose your hands. not sure if they are reach compliant either if they arent the load you settle on will need to be redone when you get new powder. for me the saving isnt worth the risk

I agree. I'd have to know someone very well indeed to use an open bottle of their powder.

Yes. I never use third party tins of opened powder unless it's directly from the person that opened the tins and used the powder. If it's come via auction or deceased estate through a gunshop clearance of the previous owner's stuff I won't take the risk.

Thanks folks, I think I will probably stick them up for sale. I bought it from my local gunshop and have no reason to believe that there is anything dodgy about the powder as it seems someone bought all the gear and then hardly used it and sold up. However I am not risking my hands on it! If no one wants it then it will be disposed off. Cheers

If you are not prepared to risk your own safety, why would you sell it and risk someone else's?

Just put a match to it in the garden and give the kids a thrill.

If someone wants it and are willing to take the risk knowing fully well the situation that is their call not mine. I put fires out not start them so no torching it in the garden for me ;-)

Save it for when reloading is banned under a future Johnson or Corby government by Priti Patel or Diane Abbott and then hand it in for compensation. Although Abbott will probably pay you out more as she can't add up...allegedly.

Either way I wouldn’t bother starting out with varget, it is banned for import under current eu legislation so once it runs out you’ll have wasted the load development process and have to start again.

Personally I would use it, provided the seller seemed a sensible type, I have bought secondhand powder before and used no issues.

We have a responsibility to other shooters as well as to ourselves. Do the grown-up thing, rather than make a few quid.
aye very good!
I have been told that some folk might be interested in one of them as it is no longer available, if someone wants it as they currently load with it and are running out of it this gives them a chance to continue to use it, then its up to them to make a call on if they want it or not. I wont be forcing anyone to buy it  25Sharps and others have intimated to me that they would use it, you wouldn't which is fine, doesn't make other people wrong.
As has been suggested, since I won't be able to buy it going forward and since I am starting out home loading, it doesn't make sense for me to use something I can't use going forward. That along with me being a bit risk averse when it comes to my own safety, I will purchase new powder. Others have different outlooks and it ain't for me to judge their reasons for wanting it.

Your powder, your conscience, your choice.

Good question your right to be reserved. My personal opinion is to ditch. You don’t know what it’s been stored like or if it’s been accidentally blended etc
