Smoked deer

Ah those ears!

Come daylight the bush fire smoke was effn terrible, visibility was ordinary but I kept going and the dog was onto deer 350-400 yards before we got to them. He has mannerisms that let me know. After pushing on they got onto me too and all I saw was four deer going away lol.

We pushed on for a fair way hoping to spring them watching their back track to no avail. Two k`s back towards the ute and the dog swung around into the breeze and indicated that there was a chance. I went back and forth until I found the hind (only because she moved) and then in thick **** she bedded.

We dropped down to her level and got up to the 60-70 yard mark and she heard me of course in the summer bush and got up for a good listen and stare then she dropped a few metres downhill for another listen and look and as usual decided to prop at a covering tree. I took a few bits of video through the smoke anyway and played a few games with her. After she had gone she belled three times getting further and further away.

Thanks mate, its tough in the thick bush and smoke was bad but the birds are magical. The prominent one is the Eastern Whip Bird aka Coach Whip Bird, its a fave of mine with a real whip crack too.

Is the movement on the left her tail or was there a second deer?
How close did you get? What camera do you use please?
