The poor fella is only after a few pigs. Now he's gonna have to go all mil-spec...
He will have to first affect a tactical beard...
Having now spent my happy hours playing with it and trying to make it fail...I think the risk of slam fire with a non-mil-spec Blaser R8 is very low even if the mechanism was allowed to get dirty enough to affect the sear engagement.
In the unfortunate event of a firing pin projecting out of the bolt face, the R8 has the advantage over a turn bolt in that the bolt lugs would be engaged before the pin met the primer and the pin would also be travelling at a slower pace than the bolt handle.
Well....I am reassured anyway...

Thing about military procurement, and this is personal experience, is that things tend to get deselected based on criteria set by people who have little knowledge or experience about what it is they are supposed to be deciding upon. ultimately the item that wins tends to be from the lowest bidder who makes the most promises...One doesn’t have to choose a weapon because of it’s performance during a military test
Or lack of performance
The information provided is genuine and balanced
Take what you will from it or ignore, it makes no difference to me
Strange how a system creates polarised opinion and comment
As i said before. A tikka T3 battue lite in 3006 is all you need.Lost me on second page am afraid am in a worse state now than before I asked
Or in the case of certain nationalities no matter how good the product is the winner has already been chosen because of where it’s manufactured!Thing about military procurement, and this is personal experience, is that things tend to get deselected based on criteria set by people who have little knowledge or experience about what it is they are supposed to be deciding upon. ultimately the item that wins tends to be from the lowest bidder who makes the most promises...
Certain nationalities are more prone to this than others.
I have travelled to Africa with both Sako bolt actions and Blaser straight-pulls. Conditions have included high humidity, rain and copious dust. I have not encountered a problem with any rifle.
As for knocking the Blaser's appropriateness for duty in dusty environs: the PH's most used/reliable estate rifle on my last Namibia trip was a Blaser R93. That speaks volumes. He chose to buy that firearm to add to his amoury. Because it works. In dusty Namibia.
The Heym strait pull is in my opinion the best straight pull action , the engineering and bolt design is a thing of wonder. I bought one after trying out the competition and am glad I chose the wee Heym over the highly advertised and promoted opposition. 275 Rigby / 7x57 Mauser I found to be a match made in heaven. Short and handy for high seat or forestry stalking and very light weight for long hill stalks.Currently looking at getting a variation for a 30.06 or similar cal due to Manchester airport leaving my .270 ammo with security so I was unable to use my rifle while in germany(couldn't get ammo out there as no one uses .270 )
So while am looking to get a new rifle I thought I'd try to get one rifle that does it all both here and abroad(Currently shoot 6.5 x 55 for most things now &.270 for boar etc
So apart from the usual blasers etc is there anything on the market that would fit the bill
Must be moderated probably straight pull etc etc
Cheers

The testing was carried out under military conditions for a precision weapon (which the SA80 is not)
I haven’t got link to the tests to hand but see my previous post
Yes the weapons tested were Blaser Tac2 the exact same mechanism as the R93
The simple fact is the Blaser failed the testing criteria on ground of safety I understand due to the issue described
AI and PGWDTI passed
AI are being used in service now as I’m sure is widely known and some PGWDTI
