.22x284 build

Redding do 6x284 bushing dies , so it should be possible to neck down and I’ve got lots of 6.5x284 brass as I shoot one already

Has anyone got any info on this calibre. I’m thinking of having a build

The 22/284 was a build I started to gather bits for several years back, having owned a 6/284 and absolutely loving it. Greg Tannel called it his Death Ray, Blaine Eddy was another proponent.

I sold the PTG reamer and Redding dies to Dave Wylde @ Valkyrie Rifles, I shouldn't image that many smiths would have the reamer, when I last spoke to Dave he said it still hadn't been used, so he would be the my first option especially as he turns out stunning rifles.

Please let us know more if the build happens, i went for a .20 Dasher, still love the 6/284 though.

Gad. Reminds me of when I was young! I had to have something different even if other cartridges performed identically. I'm not throwing cold water on the idea -I understand that desire completely. I remember the excitement I felt at the prospects of the new and unique. I hope you will get a lot of satisfaction from the build.

By the way, the first time I ran into a 22-284 was 1980. There was a gunsmith in Albuquerque, New Mexico that wildcatted the 284 to 22, 25, 6mm, and 6.5. The 6mm was the most popular and used for pronghorn antelope.~Muir

@Dawnrazor. The purpose of the 22 Creedmoor is to build it in a fast twist barrel with appropriate chamber dimensions to accept the heaviest of the .224 bullets. You can’t do that with the vast majority of .22-250s. I’m just working my way through my phone’s WhatsApp history to find my shooting buddies most recent 22 wildcat. It was insane. Give me a moment.

Another option for you to consider is my mate’s .22 Scheiße Sturm.

I’ve had to revert to the German because grandma blocked me from saying the word sh1t. Anyway I think the German translation sounds quite cool.

Anyway, the build thread is HERE.

Since the thread was last updated Phil has changed powder to RL16 and shooting the 77gr TMK to 3,800fps. This comfortably exceeds the .22x284.

Excuse my ignorance but would that not be remarkably similar to a .22-250?
You could say similar, 75gr eld at 3550 24" barrel no pressure, or the 90gr at 3100 22" barrel. I think youd get a few cases stuck/seperate before youd get those velocities with 22-250

How many .22-250s can even shoot a 75gr bullet in the first place though? Not many.
