Stalking locked down?

Thank you, chap. We are all doing our best. Despite the pressures/stress/long hours us health professionals are very lucky to still have a secure paycheck at the end of each month throughout this.
My heart goes out to the self-employed and all those facing uncertain financial futures right now.

As much as it pains me to say it........the fact is that stalking/hunting is not a good reason to leave our homes.
Yes, like many I listened to our PM yesterday and thought of many ways to justify a continuation of my stalking which is something I do daily. But, the instruction is clear “Stay at Home” unless you need to leave for reasons that are entirely essential.
Stalking/Hunting is not essential for the next few weeks. If after that time the lockdown continues and the supply of Meat/Protein is becoming a problem then maybe we will be called upon to support locally or nationally. But until then we need to follow the simple advice...”Stay at Home”.

Well obviously there was a breakdown in communication as the reference to being "is it safe" was reference was it safe to pick up the diamonds.

My guns and rifles will be staying firmly put in the cabinets, I will not be shooting in any form until told it is ok to do so.
But, and this is a serious question, I have two fields, very rural, about 1 minute drive from where I live. Within these fields I have quite a large allotment, all fenced, water from a bore hole, all the beds are ready to go for growing veg. There is very, very little chance of coming into contact with anyone unless they are trespassing. Would tending to my fields and allotment, and using them to exercise my dog be justified. Thoughts please.

My work place (major non essential retail outlet) closed down yesterday at 16.00. It was the companies directive going forward that 2x weekly visits to the workplace to check security of building, flood prevention, etc etc and daily perimeter checks. 8 of us were due to attend site this morning to finalise lockdown and secure the building that....I secured the day previous at 16.00...Then Boris made his statement.
The manager still thought it best for all 8 to meet at the store and continue with what we had planned the day previous. I asked for clarification from the company that it was a necessity that we attend and open a building that was made secure the day previous so we could finalise 'paperwork' areas.
When this clarification wasn't forthcoming I made the statement to the group that IF the police saw and stopped 8 individuals standing around they would challenge and the excuse of "we are opening a secure building to do paperwork and make sure the building is secure" may not go down too well and bring bad P.R to the organisation. I also stated I didn't want to be part of that slur that within hours of the statement made by Boris was ignored.
The attitude I got back from the manager was that of being in hot water upon my return and I wasn't required on site the following day.
I have no issue in standing my ground on situations like this and if the management wanted to go ahead and take this risk that was their call, I wanted no part of it. The Government has issued a directive and a non essential retail outlet building that was secure did not need to be re opened for paperwork, money collection, or stock collection.

Up until the lockdown yes I was looking at it as reduce working hrs and plenty of shooting opportunities...now I'm at home awaiting guidelines to be relaxed or tightened. My lovely lady works within the health system and trust me this thing is worse than what is being let on people!

I would have said that going to and working on the allotment was entirely acceptable, you are in effect socially isolating yourself and having no contact with anyone else. You will also be exercising (unless you're sitting in a green house with a wee sherry!) so you are following the guidelines. Food production is a necessity in my books and to be honest going stalking would also come under that heading as long as you are stalking apart from other people and if you can get to the stalking ground with a minimum of travel. Considering Boris has suggested going to the shops is ok once per week, I would have said that was much more of a risk of cross infection/contact, but there are vital practices (like food shopping) that have to be done.
The estate I look after is 1 minute drive or walk, I would have no contact with anyone. I am not going, STAY AT HOME.

So ill go to supermarket to get some steaks with loads of other people about or go out and shoot something on my own with no one within 1000m nevermind 2m. How can a level headed person not see the sense in this?
Yes David T,......I can imagine ! I have one like that too.......Just having that conversation this morning !Agree, it's not rocket science. The more people look for an angle to get around the latest advice the tighter and the more serious the next instruction will be. If we sit tight for a few weeks this will be over sooner rather than later. The more people take the pi55 the longer it will last.
I've just spent the last hour arguing with Mrs T that it also applies to horse riding. You can imagine

Thanks for your answers chaps, I am in a genuine quandary over this. I grow quite a lot of produce, and it is vastly safer than going to a shop and buying it for sure......... What to do!
The government has taken advice from all sources of experts. The government put out advice and some people did not follow this advice. The government is now issuing these orders and it isnt just because they want to be c@nts. They are wanting US ALL to play our part in protecting ourselves and everyone else.
Just think if you dont go out shooting for a while then there will be more deer/vermin/game there for the taking when we get back to normal.

It's about the optics of the thing, as well as the actual, measured risk. We need to contribute to a new (albeit temporary) social norm of 'staying home'. We can either reinforce or we can undermine that norm. I think, as responsible members of this society, we should do the former.
