Swine Flue from pigs
bird flu from birds
Ebola from bats

Now officials seem to believe that the current virus originates from the wet markets in China where exotic animals are stored in close proximity to humans and where humans consume them for their apparent health benefits.

Leviticus 11:1-47
And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, These are the living things that you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth. Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat. Nevertheless, among those that chew the cud or part the hoof, you shall not eat these: The camel, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you. And the rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you. ...

Deuteronomy 14:1-29
“You shall not eat any abomination. These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep. ...

Dont say anything about it being OK to eat bats does it! or monkeys! does it!

For those of us of a secular nature - I am sorely tempted to say boll*cks to all of the above...….. What is and should always be of prime importance is the ability to care for the food you eat from source to plate. I'm afraid I enjoy pork/bacon too much to go down the "unclean" route, organic/ethically reared animals are the way to go where possible, but the traceability and animal husbandry is the important thing.

I had that $hit read to me in school, also mentioned, as I recall, things from the sea that do not have scales so that ruled out Crab and a lot of other shell fish too. Isn't it funny how you remember some things but forget the important things.
In the book somewhere is also something about the time will come when you will sit on a wall and eat something disgusting.

Why should something be bollocks just because it's written in the Bible? All the above shows is that thousands of years ago dangerous eating habits were unleashing epidemic disease, just as they do today and people were observing the fact back then and were just as capable of identifying the source of disease as we are now. What is so contemptible about that?
They may have attributed the cause to the will of God rather than microbial biology and that's hardly surprising in a pre-scientific age when they didn't understand the mechanics of biology but it doesn't mean all past human experience and observation are invalid and contemptible just because they invoked God to fill in the gaps in their knowledge.

It's a fool who ignores warnings from the past. Strip the God bit out of the above and it's thoroughly sound advice from an age before science and food hygiene. The World Health Organisation could and should be making much the same point to China today. And would be if it wasn't desperate to continue receiving China's share of its funding - a point made quite correctly by Donald Trump, who has of course been vilified for it, not because he is wrong but because he is Donald trump.
[ Opinions | The WHO doesn’t only have a China problem — it has a dictator problem ]

It's a bit like the book of genesis and the story of the garden of Eden. It doesn't really explain how the universe was made and only a fool would persist in reading and dismissing it purely on those terms. It's more a meditation, couched in the language of religious myth because there was no language of science available to the writer, on mankind's place in the world and it demonstrates a prophetic understanding that our species through our knowledge and large brains have struck out on an evolutionary tangent, abandoning our niche in the natural order and that from this there would be irreversible and incalculable consequences, for us and the planet, the "garden" we live in. As indeed has proved to be the case.
You can see it as religious creation-myth tosh or you can be amazed that Bronze age Hebrew thinkers observed the fact of human evolution 4000 years before Darwin, they just didn't know it. Depends whether you've got an open mind or not.

"Officials" can believe what they like, I strongly believe when the final analysis is done we will learn the virus did not come from the wet markets but it did come from Wuhan.

This is actually correct. The dietary and other "laws" in the Old Tesatament are based, many, on commonsense and avoidance of illness. Muslims and Jews don't eat pork for the good reason that in the past pigs carried the eggs of worms in their flesh that you ate.

I am old enough...age sixty-two...to remember as a kid here in England being always told by my mother's housekeeper that if you cook pork you make sure that it is well and thoroughly cooked to kill worms. My Nigerian wife won't eat pork. She's neither Jew nor Muslim and they do indeed have pigs in that part of Nigeria but for the same reason more or less.

The Old Testament "laws" on eating crabs and lobsters are again for protection against illness. In those Holy Land countries it was hot so all year around you could get a dodgy "gone off" mollusc or crustacean I guess. And again as I kid and as an adult here in England I adhere to not eating such unless there is an "R" in the month. So don't eat the stuff in May, June, July or August.

Isaac Newton studied alchemy and mysticism because at the time they were considered legitimate sciences. He conducted experiments to try and decode the "philosopher's stone" by which it was presumed possible to turn lead into gold. A concept we now know as ludicrous and fit only for badly written children's books.

Does that mean we should roll around laughing at his three laws of motion which underpin Einstein and modern physics?

My wife just did her Food Hygiene Level 2 course and her Food Allergens course. It is interesting to see that quite a few of the forbidden foods are actually foods that are in the fourteen listed as allergens.

No, but I’m sure he’d be the first to admit he was a bit of a d!ck in his younger years and, through strength of character and an inquisitive mind discounted, however articulate, rubbish.

Channel 4 News are looking into the apparent connection between race and Covid mortality amongst care workers, what worth creed & mortality?

I'm no fan of religion but it is not wise to throw away belief systems carelessly

Nature doesn't like a vacuum - get rid of the bible, Koran etc and we get new cults to fill their place

Charmin Mao's little red book; life according to the CCP and that silly little school girl (that thankfully has shut up for the time being)

'Charmin' ? - you know what I meant :)
