Stutzen Rifles

I stalker with someone who have a lovely looking heym stutzen many years ago but he had a long legged Harris bipod on it made that picture of the one with a mod on look pretty:)

I've found myself a sako a2 fullstock at a very reasonable price! Might actually be able to collect it soon if I've deciphered Boris' message correctly.

Do you use yours with open sights or with a scope?

Always used a scope on this rifle.
Swarovski 6 x 42 for me has been perfect.

Did consider putting a Swarovski with a 50 objective lens but the 6 x 42 has been so good.....
A 56 objective (For me) would have this compact rifle appearing/feeling top-heavy.

Still keep an eye out for a reasonably priced ?x?x50.
Definitely give an ?x?x42 a go if I could get one and run it at 8 x 42 to match my bino's.

I have an old zeiss diavari classic 1.5-6x42 which I think will go on the stutzen well.

The thought has crossed my mind of trying to replace the open sights (they have been removed and lost somewhere on this rifles journey) and use it without a scope. I have no idea where to even start tracking down replacements though

I've got my eye on another Mannlicher Schoenauer MC carbine in 6.5x54 MS . Certainly don't need it but I sure would like to have it . At the moment I have nine mannlicher stocked rifles and all but two are scoped which may change soon as I have a side swing mount to go on my Mannlicher Schoenauer 8x56 MS .

Stutzen rifles really do just look 'right' in terms of overall proportions. The Stutzen 'itch' is one I might scratch one day.
To me they’re kinda like the old Lay’s Potatoe Chip commercial . Just one won’t do !!!! But then I’ve been enamored with them for fifty years .

That is a thing of beauty. And something I keep promising myself ‘one day’. a stutzen kipplauf is my dream rifle.

I have a .270 Heym. Firing it is... an experience.

Fair comment. I have a Haenel Jaeger 9 in the same cal. It's a bit feisty and shouty but not at all unmanageable.
There is something I find very appealing about a stutzen. Might have to do something about it sometime.

Love my old bsa, set trigger is nice too,

I was seriously tempted by a Remington Mohawk in .243 being sold by a fellow stalker pretty little rifle and it shot
well the downside was the loading port difficult to load quickly and no drop plate had to cycle each round to empty it
so decided against it.

Admitedly mine is in 222 and holds 6 rounds but how many do you need to shoot a deer? Only joshing.

I keep telling myself I'm going to install a bolt release but then realised I'm quite happy with the small brass push rodd I made and attached to the sling 30-years ago!

Decided I need something to look forward to once all this Covid19 business dies down and I get some time away from work in Accident and Emergency.

Got a hankering for a Stutzen rifle in .243win. I'm interested in what you folks think?

Just planning to use it for stalking, dont want a moderator on it, and I already have a 270win for if I am ever lucky enough to get a chance to stalk Reds/Sika in Scotland.

Ruger No1 in 243, nice wee rifle, easy to carry, accurate too.
