I use an old sack barrow which I took the dolly wheels off and fitted the largest wheelbarrow types on using 12mm marine steel rod as the axle. The folding handle was removed and fitted at the other end so that the weight is balanced over the axle. A strap keeps the animal/s in place.
It folds down and fits in the back of my truck. If I need more space the wheels can come off as they're held on by pins.

I have started carrying my fallow out in a frame pack; it has amazed me just how much easier, and quicker, to carry out fallow in comparison to dragging them out. My pack is a fairly expensive one, but to be anle to shift the weight between my shoulders and hips makes it so easy to carry out very heavy loads.
I'm looking for something and don't know whether it already exists so thought I would ask here.
I'm in the fortunate position of having a woodland permission that is relatively level, albeit prone to getting water logged at certain times of year. The usual method of extraction is just to lug out the muntjac and roe and drag out fallow in a drag bag. The distance to the vehicle point is dependent on where in the woods the critter goes down but will usually be 500 plus yards. The frequency and number of deer just don't merit the cost of a quad bike and the ride condition, particularly when water logged, would restrict use of a 4x4 vehicle.
My mind is turning to whether there may be a 2 wheeled contraption out there that one could use for the fallow to make their extraction easier. I did think about just a builders wheel barrow but I'm thinking 2 wheels would be better for overall stability, particularly with a fallow on board when it's particularly wet going. What's currently in my mind is almost something like a raised sack barrow, probably with larger non-pneumatic wheels (to remove the inevitable tyre punctures from thorns). It's something I would be wanting to leave in the woods secured to a tree between visits.
Before I reinvent the wheel (so to speak), is anyone using something along the proposed lines that is commercially available or that they fabricated themselves that they can share pictures of?
I know I could carry on dragging out fallow in bags or trays or sleds but I'm a lazy sod at heart

I wouldn't mind carrying them out like this but I have an aversion to the 'little friends in search of a new home' (aka ticks) that might decide to transfer from the fallow to my neck in the process

Well, yes and no - I'm definitely wanting to get the deer out of the woods but certainly didn't put it into the woods

Things you can't ignore or change is the weight of the beast, come the winter then If I had need of a trolley would see me making it using these extra wide balloon tires which are fitted to the bmx type bikes.

I got one of these from Amazon warehouse two years ago for small money, they are perfect for drawing deer over rough forestry tracks and light enough and small enough to just carry home again instead of leaving in the woods, good for keeping the vehicle clean too.
I do do that but sods law seems to dictate that fallows needing a long drag out only get shot when I'm on my tod!
