Differences between Ogden's Rifle Slips?

So, I'm wondering about the finer differences between these nice Ogden's rifle slips, or "cases" to us cousins across the pond. I would just email Ogden to ask, but I already have a question in to them about a possible customization, and they haven't gotten back to me yet (a couple of days). I assume they are busy and while I wait I'll ask you fellows.

I'll just list what big differences between the models that I can glean from the descriptions on the site, and perhaps some of you can fill in the blanks.

Summary:
Quickslip
is made of the heaviest, sturdiest external material, and has special waterproofing features. Has some Cordura inside to protect the lining. Has the fanciest leather trimmings, what seems to be the nicest main pocket, and also has a padlockable zipper. Backpack straps.

Ultralite seems, uh, lighter, and is the only one with just a shoulder strap. Leather at the muzzle. Also looks like the trimest. Cordura.

Quadlite is the cushiest with the most padding, some of which is stiffer than the other slips to resists knocks on a quad. It isn't made of ballistic nylon, however; still Cordura. Has extra external loops to secure it to a quad and extra haul straps. Longest size made standard. No leather. Only one to fully unzip flat. Backpack straps. Also has an extra pocket nearer the front tip and is the only one to feature internal retaining straps. Unsure how tough inside is compared to others.

Night Vision is the deepest at 14.5", is made of Cordura and has leather at the muzzle. Simplest main pocket (just one pocket…others show two pockets). Backpack straps.

Details:

Quickslip
zipper: seems to be the most waterproof (waterproof zip, a water resistant drop liner behind the foam to form a waterproof barrier). Can be padlocked.
  • main bag: made from a drab olive "ballistic" nylon
  • padding: 25mm foam padding
  • inside: black velcrotex velore lining with 25mm foam padding, the bottom 12" of the lining is in cordura to stop the "raw" barrel ripping the lining
  • carrying: backpack straps
  • pocket: pics show a two-pocket "main" pocket, with a detail shot of the inside that shows another zip pocket and perhaps mag pouches?
  • size: 50" & 54", but no depth or weight noted
  • notes: leather at the muzzle and the rear
Ultralite
  • zipper: heavy duty, but not stated as waterproof type
  • main bag: tough military strength Cordura (1000d? 500d? note: ballistic nylon in the regular Quickslip is a good bit heavier than 1000d Cordura.)
  • padding: 25mm foam padding.
  • inside: black velore lining
  • carrying: one shoulder strap, like luggage
  • pocket: pics show a two-pocket "main" pocket, with no further detail given
  • size: 45", 50", and 54" X 11.5" deep, but no weight noted
  • notes: leather at the muzzle
  • oddities: says it has a "Chest strap" but I think that's a typo
Quadlite
  • zipper: YKK no. 10 heavy duty zip with ultra glide pullers.
  • main bag: military strength Cordura which has been laminated to another fabric making a much stiffer outer layer to give maximum protection from bangs and knocks. Seems to be the stiffest bag, perhaps not as comfortable for carrying as much as the others?
  • padding: padded with double thickness foam, 10mm stiff on the outside facing and 18mm softer for the inner.
  • inside: olive 6oz lining with quick release buckle retainer/straps to secure rifle. Retaining straps seem to be another unique feature here.
  • carrying: one shoulder strap, like luggage
  • pocket: pics show a two-pocket "main" pocket (no further detail), and it also has a front nose pocket
  • size: 45", 50", and 55", but no depth or weight noted, and it's the model with the longest option
  • notes:
    • molle strap on the underside of the case so it can be fixed in place in front of the quad driver by 2 x quick release straps supplied. Another word for this is a "daisy chain" from the climbing world.
    • Front pull handle
    • No leather that I can see
    • The slip can fully unzip and lie flat, which I believe is unique to this slip in the range.

Night Vision
  • zipper: heavy duty, but not stated as waterproof type
  • main bag: tough military spec Cordura (1000d? 500d?)
  • padding: 25mm foam padding.
  • inside: not noted
  • carrying: backpack straps
  • pocket: pics show a SINGLE-pocket "main" pocket, with no further detail given
  • size: 50" x 14.5" deep, but no weight noted
  • notes: leather at the muzzle
  • oddities: says it "will take bipod," but I think it means it will take a larger bipod than normal, as it seems the others are big enough to fit a regular Harris typo

Whew.

Ok, I will now send Ogden's my copyediting bill, haha! So, tell me about relative weights, which ones have an internal butt pocket to take the weight off the zip, why you chose what you did, stiffness of material, comparative waterproofness, how your slip gets you the chicks, etc…basically, the things that aren't in the descriptions. Consider this a public service to others who find this post in years in the future (but then, all crusty and cobwebbed).

Dang, the 30 edit window closed just as I was making the four model names of the slips into links! And it looks like I goofed on not making a sentence into a bullet point. Oh well…I think I worked on this post for two+ hours…enjoy!

Psssst…if a mod would grant me more time to clean up the original post's formatting, I wouldn't complain!

Ok, so I got anal and fixed mistakes and layout the initial post, PLUS I made a comparison table. Four hours later, I'm krazy!

I have the nv slip, there is no pocket to put the butt of the rifle in but the zips are real heavy duty on both the bag and the side pocket.
The side pocket also has a small zipped pocket inside, again with a heavy duty zip.
Cheers

I have a quickslip. It does have a butt sleeve to relieve stress on zip, although you could also swap the shoulder straps around to carry the rifle muzzle down if you like.

They are pretty hardcore slips without being tactical and are really as much as is needed.

If you are not using on a quad and are not needing extra depth to take night vision ewuipment atop your rifle, get the quickslip.

I will add, i do have dedicated night vision on one rifle and use an add on on otuer rifles. Even with external IR added, i still get my rifle in the quickslip but with the add on and large solaris, it is a tight fit.

Standard rifle, moderator, large scope, bipod etc, no issue at all.

Well thought out bit of kit. Mine gets used a few times a week and is now filthy. I have not looked after it and no part has failed other than some small pieces of material flaking off where the zippers continuously rub when used extensively. Does not affect operation at all.

If mine broke or was stolen, i would buy one immediately.

Phil is not the best with emails. He is old school. Phone him and even then you might have to leave a message. Once ordered, customer service is very good.

I've got an old 40" tactical bag that is no longer listed, still as good as new showing no wear.
I've also got the Night Vision bag. Can carry a rifle with the NV unit and separate IR still attached, expands nice and wide and half the weight of my AIM drag bag.

I’ve got the ultralight 50 ! It’s not light !!! But probably is compared with the others 😊
Very well made and my NV rifle fits in easy

I spoke to Phil on the phone, had the NV slip made longer than standard; and a new rubberised material used at butt and muzzle instead of the leather - that has proved to be much harder wearing. Great bloke to deal with, he got me to measure my Rifle with mod on, then he worked out the correct dimensions from there.
Its certainly not heavy, but very sturdy.

As above but I have the little pocket for the butt to slip into. Mine does not have backpack straps though!! I wish it did.

I hope this helps you out a little @carbon, here are some photographs that I have taken of my Ogdens Quadlite 50 rifle slip for you and some measurements also.
Regards
Martin.

That's very nice Martin.
What colour is it and is it 2 tone material, different colour on inside?
I've sent him drawings for a custom rifle slip but as mentioned his communication is hopeless.

Hi, yes two different shades, heavy-duty nylon on the inside is slightly lighter in colour than the outside, it has two velcro strips so you can remove the padding on each side if needed.
It is well made and I'm very happy with it and as said Phil is a gent to deal with.
He might be busy but he will get back to you.
I have a heavy rifle and this bag holds it easy and with the ruck-strap design it is easy to carry, and plenty of storage pockets also for mags, moderator bolt, etc.
If you have any more questions about the bag fire away and if I can answer I will.
ATB.

I been loving the responses, but have suddenly become way too busy to constructively reply! If anyone has answers to the bolded parts in the last comparison table I slapped together, that’d be great.

For example, it sounds like the Night Vision bag is roughly half the weight of an AIM dragbag? What’s the weight of the AIM? (Edit: the 55” AIM is 3.2kg / 7 lbs). How about the approx weight of the 54” Quickslip?

And how much lighter is the Ultralite than the Quickslip or Night Vision?

I would call Phil, but I’m in Minnesota in the US of A. I could look into a cost saving international cell plan…it’s rubbish that calls to anywhere cost anything extra! It’s all going through the intertubes nowadays anyway! And my email has gone into a black hole, apparently (but I get it, email is a bummer).

Thx to those that have responded already!
