I have today received a letter from the Wilts Firearms dept. telling me that as my coterminous licences are soon due to expire and to download the renewal forms and return them asap.
My Licences do not expire until mid January 2021 which to my mind is not 'soon'
Has anybody else had such early reminders ?

I'd think due to the current circumstances that the sooner the better due to reduced staff.

I know even for the likes of a 'like for like' variation it is taking longer than usual.

To be fair I would think it’s not that early. They state that to get the eight week extension (if renewal is not done) you must of got paperwork in at least eight weeks before expiration. Lancashire usually send reminder at least 12 weeks before and you’re what 16 weeks off. With Christmas (whatever that’ll be this year) in there too. So call it 14 weeks not that long especially if you have the medical information bull to deal with.

Mine are with Thames Valley and expire around the same time (end Jan). I hade my renewal letters arrive in the post last week. Four months prior seems to be the standard here.

As it happens I’d completed mine online and submitted them already ;)

I was speaking with the TVP Firearms team a few months ago about another matter, and they said to go ahead with the renewal early. They sent me all the necessary links via email later that day. I have to say that things have improved considerably in recent years, and would give full credit to the team at Kidlington their help and assistance.

Sounds about right. Mine's due end of Jan, and last time around I sent the renewal in in early November, and I'm expecting something similar again this time, ie, reminder / forms to be received by myself mid- October time.

My FAC expires Feb 6th next year.I posted my renewal application last week to Dyfed Powys police. They returned my application the following day saying I applied too early. They will only accept applications after they send out reminders which will be around 12 weeks before expiry of licence.

I'm in the same position as willie gunn with TVP, having got them in just before the reminder.

Be mindful that you need the medical cert, so build in time for getting that back

I've just received my renewed licences back from Wilts took around four months. Considering that during that time they weren't processing variations or new licences applications, only just renewals I thought that was a bit of a long time! Normally as a county were very spoilt by the level of service.

January 2021 is pretty soon, they are still working from home and one member of staff had just gone on maternity so they’ll be pushed.

They are doing some variations

A lot of forces are splitting up the ‘peak’ months for renewals and spreading the load.

at least they are
1/thinking about the customer
2/ Empowered to make things better.

Devon/Cornwall/Dorset were running at 58 day turnaround for renewals when mine went in. As I got mine in earlier than the 58 days I was told that if the licensing dept failed to get my ticket back to me before it elapsed I would be granted an additional eight weeks cover and sent a confirmatory letter so I could continue to shoot and buy ammunition.

If I didn't get my renewal in within the stated time, I would be libel to have my guns placed in storage until the new ticket was issued. If they want you to get it in now, do as they ask and you should be covered. Leave it late and it'll be down to you.

I am also with D&C. I sent in my coterminous SGC+FAC application 9 weeks before expiry of my licence. FEO visited and signed off on paperwork 3 weeks before expiry. [it included a variation]

Yesterday I received a letter stating that Middlemoor will be unable to process paperwork before the expiry date which is next week.

They have issued an 8 week extension to my licence per section 28B of the Firearms Act.
