Available: 2 syndicate places available in larnarkshire

cos the North of the Border chaps don't want to pay the money we HAVE to,
Where do we get this from? What do we have to do? I look at a lease/syndicate. If I can afford it I will put my name forward. If I can't I don't. Simple maths. We are a small country so south of the border there is a high percentage of people with a lot more disposable income. As for the deer problem, where is it? It exists mainly in minds of forestry and public access areas where deer levels are kept substantially lower than other areas. Hill deer are managed as a resource. Overspill from the main stalking estates towards forestry does cause some conflict. The majority of areas are well served by stalkers. Scotland does not have the problems reported in England. Yes there are some vocal on what to be honest is rediculous bid prices. One syndicate, which a Scottish member on here bought into at £1000 a pop have not seen deer on the ground. At the last DMG (Central Scotland) meeting main topic. Poaching, and yes as Gazza said this land probably included is the main problem, where poachers are dropped off, work their way through the netwok of woods overnight with battery lamps. Leave the kill at the roadside. Get picked up and collect in the morning. Safest woods from these chaps is those that can have a local (40 minutes away) stalker who can do a high seat stalk mid week.
In summery, *because we can, we can't. * because we can't we get the poachers. *Because we get the poachers farmers and foresters are wary about giving us access. * because access is so limited we get inflated pricing. *because we got inflated pricing we can't afford it. *because we can't afford it we are tight. *because we are tight we can't get the lease. * because we can't get a lease we have to apply to lease holder who are only taking south of the border stalkers.*Because we are local we are knocked back. *because we are knocked back we get a bit narked. * because we get narked we get blatent racist remarks posted on an open forum.
Jim

There is banter and there is racism. It is not that long ago that in an argument in Aberdeen one was fined for calling the other an English W*nker. The fine was for calling the other English (True)

Glenfeshie??

There are certainly no deer problems from the central belt southwards. and not many up north Glenfeshie is not a problem its a conflict of interests .:lol:When you need to look at Deer problems it is in england were the main ones are and christ you cant get on that ground for love nor money. Most of that over populated ground is run by the DI and the FC .;)

JIMBO123 is 100% RIGHT IN EVERYTHING HE SAYS,I TOO APPLIED WITHIN MINUTES OF THE POST AND HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THE SAME, TO CLOSE.WAS IT A CASE THAT THE LEASE HOLDER KNEW OF THE INCOMING FLACK HE WOULD RECEIVE AND HID BEHIND (NO ACCESS TO INTERNET) STORY.IT IS NOT A CASE WE ARE NOT WILLING TO PAY THE MONEY WE JUST REFUSE TO PAY OVER THE ODDS.

Glenfeshie??
Get real, we are talking about stalking that is available to the rank and file. There is no deer problem in Glenfeshie. No deer.

I live in Kazakhstan now, but I do have a "holiday" home in North Lanarkshire that I frequent when I can, would that be classed as to close or to far? Oh and I'm also English. Maybe I should have pm'd..........

Did you move there for a 'better quality of life' than North Lanarkshire

Not knowing the ground, cos I'm a "tight" aberdonian an don't go south of Aberdeen cos o the cost of diesel,is 15/20 roe enough deer to be culled off of 1200hectares,if it is it can't be good stalking,no?

Good job i dont stipulate that you need to live 100,s of miles away on my wee bit. Or one of my chaps would need to drive down south then head back up later .I was told by him that he can walk to the ground but i dont know if i believe him as he never did.

MAYBE ADMIN SHOULD LOOK AT THESE ADVERTS AND SEE IF THEY ARE BEING PLACED IN A FAIR AND EVEN SPORTING MANNER. BUT I DO REMEBER GRIFF AND OTHERS DOING THE SAME A FEW YEARS BACK.
THEN THEY WILL ASK US WHY THERE IS SO MUCH POACHING IN OUR AREAS.

At least they're bieng honest about telling you that you live too close, I've waisted half a day and drove 80 miles round trip to be told they'll let me know when they had no intention of ever letting me join, after showing me around it .I had money and all documents with me. He knew where I came from but still arranged a viewing I was first to view.:(

PS It was'nt this ground I looked at.

Think I viewed the same bit. They want the mone from people who have limited access. Does not work that way. I might go for a morning stalk. If I am stalking down south the caravan is on the back cos I am not going for a morning, Man Stu does not nip up to Dunfies for an evening on the bucks. Days on the ground probably the same but the effort from the travellers will be far greater. Plus not everybody wants to kill deer as a pastime. I stock my freezer and give some away. I have no wish to blooter everything in sight.

As Jimbo has pointed out I was not talking in theory as regards high levels of poaching activities on the North Lanarkshire/West Lothian Border. At a very recent joint meeting of North Lanarkshire/South Lanarkshire/West Lothian Deer Management Groups poaching was very much on the agenda this following meetings with both Lothian and Borders and Strathclyde Police . Some evidence of poaching activity would indicate several deer being taken on a nightly basis. Not exactly good deer/land management is it?
Bottom line is that by restricting syndicate members to those staying a good distance from the lease does not stop locals shooting the ground but in fact probably encourages poachers who know that there will be nobody around on a regular basis to hinder their activities.

Gazza it happend here many many times when the Whitlee forest was leased to lads from Preston . Now if they had a local chap or two on it they would have eyes and ears in the right place. But it is a sort sighted view to take. That also includes the forestry companies and its time that in the interest of the deer and there management ment the Governemt started to practice what the preach.

Couple of points that have been raised before:

There is a difference between managing deer and simply having an area of ground you can 'pop-up' to for a wee stalk when the mood takes you. I noted that on this ground there is quite a diverse age of trees therefore surely the main reason for shooting deer would have to be management? As has already been pointed out, that cannot possibly be done by someone living so far away that they have plan an overnight trip once every month. Weather, wind and dog walker's are all capable of spoiling the plan. Live local and you can make alternative plans at the drop of a hat.

I can also imagine however, how some desperate person living local could shoot everything on sight and never be away from the place. Surely the sensible approach would be to allow any new member a period of proving themselves? Regardless of where they stay tell them what the rules are whether written or simply gentlemanly with the over-riding factor being the cull plan. If they blow it then their off!

There is no doubt that local members will have a better chance of putting off potential poachers though!

Surely if you mistrust the people in your syndicate to the point that you think they are going to shoot the place out if they live within 60 miles then you probably shouldn't have had them in the syndicate in the first place.
Location has nothing to do with it.

The way i understood it was, the FC give you a Cull figure which has to be Met,if you can't meet the cull figure, the FC will send in a contract Stalker,is this not correct ?

Bernie

This is correct Bernie,or one of their own lads, however seeing as this thread is not about FC ground I don't see the relevance, then again if it is on forestry,I would imagine there will be a cull figure IMHO it is set too low or there are not a lot of deer on the go,15/20 roe off of 1200 h/a is not a lot at all!
Considering I have ground of the same size and different stages of afforestation, much and such the same as the syndicate ground on this thread and we kill upwards of 80 roe a year off it
I do know there will be differences,ie deer feed in too it,etc, etc

'15-20 deer off 1200 ha' would be enough to tell me to leave well alone whether I lived 5 or 500 miles away. JC

What has 15-20 deer off 1200ha got to do with it if the members of the syndicate only stalk a dozen times a year?
