A 40lb cat jumping on you is indeed a threat. Many of the places I go are around a hour from help ,no phone service mostly and my 44 mag super Blackhawk is at hand. Some also recommend a knife to more or less gut a cat that has decided to attack. So far never have I been attacked I do keep my back to a tree or a large rock anything to hinder ambush from the rear.

Yes I was basing my statement on my friends I have in the US and their answers, and of course the common knowledge over your way that if they are rabid they can and do attack, so yes I agree a 40lb bobcat (that's big for a bobcat isn't it?) with rabies is a threat, I never said it wasn't.

Yes 40Lbs is pretty large for a bobcat, I never want to have one decide I may be driven out of the area, much less jumped on. My guess is short of being rabid or starving to death after hearing rabbit squeals that I use to call coyote it wont happen. Mountain Lion are another story I was tracked by one in my youth very uncomfortable thing to have dealt with, she could have taken me and my friends at any time. A female lion with kittens, must have decided we were no threat (correctly so). Most of the time either cat specie will avoid human contact. In the Black Hills of South Dakota Mountain lion populations are on the rise and not legal to hunt, the towns in the hills get cats looking for easy prey such as smaller dogs ect. Cheers
