I don't suppose you might know if they had any litter mates not yet sold? Wishful thinking I know! I am about to start getting in touch with UK breeders but I'm not optimistic that a dog here may be affordable - least of all a wirey one! When I first started looking at the breed they were about £750 but I wasn't in a position to buy. With my wife now on board a four legged hunting partner would be wonderful. Importing certainly seems a good thing to think about, not least with the ability tests etc. I had read the thread of a few months ago on importing post Brexit, well done on getting it sorted! Are the lockdown restrictions going to cause difficulty? I have always wanted to go to Germany but I don't expect to be able to travel anytime soon! Is the pet passport no longer sufficient on it's own? Apologies in advance for attempting to jump on your coat tails and for all the questions!I've got a DD bitch pup coming from one of best kennels in Germany for £1000
They were all spoken for before they were born, look on vdd website for upcoming littersI don't suppose you might know if they had any litter mates not yet sold? Wishful thinking I know! Thanks for your reply. I had a good look on there. fantastic looking dogs in their test results section. Plenty of interesting info but not many litters at present. The only one I could see was born in Dec so I’d imagine all spoken for. Will keep an eye on it. Good luck with yours! They were all spoken for before they were born, look on vdd website for upcoming litters
The hard part at the minute is dogs being able to travel to mate, getting a pup here is ok through a recognised courier, but everywhere is in the same scenario, lockdowns and not being able to travel as individuals so matings usually require travelling and pairing the right dogs to get the correct lines are usually not near each other, our club had a dog come from CZ last week with an organised courier, fingers crossed the vaccine is doled out and things start moving once again, regards WayneI don't suppose you might know if they had any litter mates not yet sold? Or look at the websites do your homework ask lots of questions and ask regarding a pup in the next available litter once you've found your ideal breeder,Ps if you are looking I would seriously look abroad it will be usually too late looking at the website you need to talk direct to the club and get your name on a list and move things forward that way, good luck
The only problem with those dogs is that unfortunately in most cases the basic foundations of training have not been instilled and behavioural issues from a lack of socialisation, stimulation and exercise can be ingrained. If your after a dog , wait those three grand puppies are going to be free to a good home in 6-18 months time ! Speaking to a fella on the phone today , talk about clueless
People will go back to work , sofas will get chewed , **** will meet the owners when they return back from a day at work when covid is not such a massive threat
Great advice. There is a HUGE difference in the interest in bloodlines/pedigrees here in comparison to Europe. Here you ask about the ancestry and the answer is usually..."I don't know, the 'papers' are at the back of a drawer somewhere"... In Europe they are so proud of the lineage, most will recite it from memory.Or look at the websites do your homework ask lots of questions and ask regarding a pup in the next available litter once you've found your ideal breeder,
This will also show that your serious too about a quality dog, as believe it or not many of the European dog men see the uk and how we pour out pups as a joke and not good for the breeds.
But on the flip to that also be aware that there's still sh1t over the channel too so again homework and questions are a must.
Cheers Jimmy
Good post Keith, couldn't agree more.Great advice. There is a HUGE difference in the interest in bloodlines/pedigrees here in comparison to Europe. If a serious Euro breeder realises that you know their lines, what went before them, what studs they have used and you appreciate what they are all about, you will win their trust.
There is two sides on every coinThe only problem with those dogs is that unfortunately in most cases the basic foundations of training have not been instilled and behavioural issues from a lack of socialisation, stimulation and exercise can be ingrained.
It depends on the dog, having worked with a lot of dogs which have come from a poor start results are mixed and whilst you can end up with a cracking working companion the majority are not a quick fix.
At the other end too, one of the best working cockers I have ever worked was rehomed due to behavioural issues. The drive in him was off the scale and his “issue” was that he just needed lots and lots of work and stimulating to keep him on an even keel.
Unfortunately for him, he had a hereditary problem and had to be put too sleep before his career had properly began.
I’ve no doubt that there will be success stories emerge of lockdown puppies finding their forever working home after being rehomed but nothing beats getting a pup and doing all the foundation work yourself.
