Trophy hunting and mis-informed Celeb’s

dear all,
Amy and Adam have worked hard to get Guardian to publish this.
They have also taken a big risk by having their names published while being a part of UK university faculty.
All they ask is for this to be circulated widely.
They are working closely with African scientists.
The puspose of this article is not just to change minds but for the first time Goncalves has been put on the back foot.
This is the first time hunters have been on the offence rather than the backfoot.
I can assure you that this is not the only or the last step.
There are a lot of plans moving ahead.
Adam has also done a bbc interview.
And I know one person so far who has changed their mind.

If we do not publish then people like goncalves will keep brainwashing public.

Thanks for the article and a balanced, science based view. I’m sure a lot more of this sort of positive effort would go a long way to counter ‘anti’ emotional based view point.

Well said, @shooter .

Amy Dickman has celebrity status amongst most of us in the industry. One of the bravest scientists around, in my opinion. We come across (and indeed work with) plenty others who share her views, but most are unwilling to speak out for fear of a backlash.

Here's a picture the cook sent me this morning from the kitchen door: the product of conservation-hunting.

Is that the cook behind him @CarlW ??

On a more serious note ...

Wonder to what extent the Celebs are genuinely interested in the subject or just use it an easy way to stay in the media and keep the contracts rolling in
Correct!! They suck their finger, hold it in the air and see which way the wind is blowing today!

There was a 3 part documentary aired by the BBC in the 1990s called “Africa’s Big Game” which aired as part of their African Summer series. It was an in-depth look at conservation and the role of hunting, and included interviews with famous conservationists at the time, including Cynthia Moss and Richard Leakey, among others.

Surprisingly, it was extremely well done and balanced, with the conservationists supporting (or at least highlighting) the crucial and beneficial role or sport hunting in the conservation of iconic species such as lion and elephant.

It would be great to have it made available, if only for a record of the interviews. But despite asking on a number of occasions, the BBC have told me that the have no plans to release the tapes, air the series again, or make the series available on DVD.

I wonder why?

Great work to get this work out to a wider public.
George Monbiot has publicly said he was mistaken and has changed his position on the benefits of trophy hunting : a small win. Next perhaps other forms of hunting can be disentangled from trophy hunting (as depicted on line), and most importantly canned hunting clearly separated from fair chase.

Hi

Field Sports channel also put this out on the same subject.

This was all planned with common threads.

For the first time various fora have united to launch a campaign.

While we are talking about a united front, they are also looking for a lawyer for some pro bono work.
There will be publicity so not everyones cup of tea. Will suit someone wanting to gain recognition.
Wont reveal too much here, if interested, PM me.

Please note i will only reply to established members here not new as I am also aware of the antis planning.

I'm honestly impressed that a far left, woke mouthpiece like the Guardian published this.

Same goes for Monbiot for admitting he was wrong.

Perhaps they're finally realising it's a pretty harsh world out there & one which happens to make a sport out of a necessity (much like UK deer stalking...).

All of these celebrities are the same in my opinion. They cluster together and raise their heads above the wall to show how well educated and well meaning they are. Its a way of maintaining their belief in they are here for a purpose, because the vast majority have no life skills at all and live in a totally cosseted world where they believe people look up to them for guidance. Guidance on subjects they have no experience of to a greater extent, and yet they convince themselves that they are right in their beliefs.

What the vast majority do not know is how in Africa, and in general how the ethical hunting community works across the world. Sure the Celebs fly in to the country in their private jet or first class plane seat, their minions run around them and take photos of them holding some helpless local child or animal skin. All looks great for their public image back home and gets into the magazine or newspaper. Then they leave and get back to their comfortable lives without really experiencing how the local people will be affected and their income destroyed if hunting is closed down. How come they are never seen to be complaining about illegal poaching. If they put as much effort and money into stopping the illegal trade in wildlife they might then see how conservation and hunting goes hand in hand in most places.

Many African countries have corrupt governments, look at Uganda at the moment, and South Africa with white farmers being murdered. Dont see many Celebs making an effort over that do you? The fact remains that we as a nation of animal lovers have become blinkered by the vast majority of the media. And for these Celebs, if that is what you want to call them, are just riding a band wagon for their own kudos and eventually a larger bank account in my opinion.

Its not going away any of this, look at Vegan January..................... WHAT the hell is that all about. What a crock of S..T. Ok lets have MEATY MARCH then and start to promote why humans need protein for a healthy diet. And why do all these products promoting meat free, are all made to look like burgers or sausages?

The photos in this thread show 6 individuals. Two I know of, the others I have not a Scooby doo who they are. Top left is a complete moron anyway, the others could be tomorrows road sweepers for all I care and know. I bet none have even been anywhere near a remote area in Africa without someone holding their hand or a camera crew to help them through their ordeal. Idiots.

God help us with some of these individuals.

Keep safe everyone :)

I wonder how many of these uninformed people enjoy a good steak, then think how it was produced and processed to get to their table!!
