What 6.5

I’ve shot a lot of rounds with the 6.5x55 and the 6.5CM, both tikka t3x stainless in synth stocks.
given the choice I would always choose the swede, a much nicer round to shoot than the CM, but then all my shooting is deer, walked and high seat, if I was doing more paper I may just sway towards the CM.

I went with the creed as its what my RFD had most ammo of.

Have shot both the creed and the swede. I can't say I would be unhappy with either.

I went with the 24" CTR on mine

I have a Blaser R8 6.5x47 25.5” barrel, for stalking. Throws a 129 ABLR at just over 3000fps, 43gr RS60.Very accurate, but I find the barrel a little long. Considering getting it chopped, maybe to 20-22” 🤔

I have a Tikka Tactical 6.5CM, 24” barrel, throws a Hornady 143ELD-X at 2875fps. Shot gongs out to 920yds, on a calm day, it got boring hitting the gongs, every shot.
Just got a 6.5 PRC R8 23” barrel, and the QL data looks quite exciting. Looking at loading this lead free, I think 🤦‍♂️

The PRC has a much bigger case capacity than the other two, but it’s pushing the same weight bullets circa an extra 250fps.

I know the 6.5x55 is very highly rated, but I just find the idea of it, dull !

6.5x47 is excellent, but you need to home load,

Factory ammunition is available for the PRC, but it’s limited at the moment.

The 6.5 Creedmoor has plenty of factory ammunition on offer, and it’s a cracking hunting, or target round.

Lots of food for thought, like to thank you all for your input, I am going to wait until lock down is over, and then make my choice

Great idea

I've always found that the best time to look is before I am ready to buy

That way I maximise the chances that I've done my due diligence and avoid going wrong

For what it is worth, I have 6.5 x 55 which I have found to be a great round for stalking and also for target out to 600 - 800 m

It is only when you get into the OCD world of long range that the choice becomes more difficult

I will continue to use 6.5 x 55 for stalking, but am looking at 6.5 CM and PRC for long range precision target

S20 is like any other Sako can be rebarrelled but if PRC it will only rebarrel in another magnum

Any 6.5 mm cartridge that’s deer legal will kill any deer and kill
It humanely if the bullet is placed correctly

Get the rifle that suits you and try / feel / put some to your shoulder before making a decision

By the way I have two creedmoors for sale that I have re barrelled if of any interest

No hard sell

Thanks for that, I am very tempted but really I am undecided at the moment at what to have hoping lock down will end soon so I can go and have a look at some,

6.5 PRC because all the rest are pretty much the same thing so it really doesn't matter and you won't easily get a factory rifle in 6.5-284 or factory ammo.

There you go problem solved. practically no difference between 6.5x47, .260, 6.5x55 and 6.5 CM so let a quality rifle built by a trusted smith make the choice for you.

(I was being facetious in post#32)

This is interesting. I wonder if others familiar with both the 6.5x55 and 6.5CM have found the same?

Been accepted for a 6.5, was thinking of the following
Tikka. 6.5 creedmoor ctr
Tikka t3x super varmint 6.5x55
Any opinions would be appreciated, also considering a 6.5 /284, but put off by not many rounds before needing a rebarrel
If you reload go for the tikka 6.5 ctr

I picked up a tikka ctr in 6.5 cm last year. Done a bit of load development and found the 129gr sst shot well at 2800fps. Smacking gongs to 580yds constantly.

You missed 260 rem ! Easy to get brass , form it from any 308 derived case . More powder capacity the the creed unfortunately can't take the longer target bullets tge creed can in the medium action ( play off a bit more powder) .
Just had one built , my deciding factor was , I have every other 308 derived cartridge in a rifle
People are forgetting the 260 rem which is very silly against a creed which although has definite completion benefits by holding a certain longer higher bc bullet inside a mag , thats irrelevant to hunting use

You reloading for this? I've one on back order
