EU ban on lead ammunition for airguns, shotguns and rifles

How long do we think before they just ban the sale of lead altogether? I think it’s madness and that the number of people consuming lead shot game since the 1800’s shows very little proof that anyone is dying as a direct result of ingesting lead....it’s another small victory for anti-shooting and the fact it’s such an emotive subject of shooting forums shows lead is doomed - if you ask the general public they will say “oh yes, if it’s bad we should ban it”....and the fact a large proportion of shooting people agree will mean it’s a done deal...(or will be soon)

I have just begrudgingly bought my first box of copper bullets to try....it’s a sad state of affairs, however it’s not something I see as worth investing time and energy fighting as too many people (rightly or wrongly) oppose lead as they seem to get more “woke”.....if we are at the stage of mass media reporting how animals are hurt by people referring to derogatory animal terms I think lead going belly up is a given I’m afraid.

i just see it as one of those things that the public will be given some statistic by the anti’s and will run with it.

I did consider buying a larger stock of lead but it’s pointless as they could very well ban its use...

And I live up here...but I’m afraid I’m a Heinz ‘57....

although it was nice to see the results at twickers last night - well deserved!

A ban on the use of lead would be next to impossible to police unless you were selling stuff on.

If I were truly mischievous and bloody minded I'd suggest looking into casting your own bullets and manufacturing a shot dripper.

A mate of mine in England rang Yesterday. He kills a lot of deer and one place he manages he must use mono bullet and he says the game dealers are now requiring non toxic shot carcass's he has switched to all mono ammo. Over all he was unimpressed by how the mono bullets worked, factory rounds. He said he had so many more deer that ran a long way after the shot compered to lead bullets with many deer just drilled through with little expansion. He buys his ammo by the hundreds so not so easy to change manufacturer.

Well said, if lead was really about public health then their are far more health damaging issues out there effecting a much wider population, like smoking, drinking, illegal drugs, fast food, poor diet due to poor living standards, Lead is just another way antis see of harming the sport, killing for fun or pleasure as they see it.

How I see it is it will only effect the commercial side of venison products the bigame game outfit's will have to use none lead ammo.if they want to sell game commercily fact.the rest of us recreational stalkers and game shooters who just want a bit of sport and some fresh meet on the table for ourselves will carry on using lead bullets and shot personally I'm not worried at all about a ban on lead I'll just stock up and keep using lead shot and bullets. As for those who want to change to none toxic ammo hope you continue to enjoy your sport just as I will with lead.

Petition your shooting org to support the following:

• No restriction on the use of lead ammunition for target shooting in any caliber of rifle, air rifle or shotgun
• No restriction on the use of lead ammunition for pest control in any caliber of rifle, air rifle or shotgun
• Non-toxic ammunition to be used for all game not consumed by the shooter's immediate household

Agreed but with the retraction of the last "rule" ring replaced with one which requires the seller to provide information to state wether lead ammo was used to kill animal.
Allow the consumer to chose rather than impose the rule. This is done with line caught tuna, free range eggs, organic products, vegan friendly etc.
The consumer can decide to what level they expose themselves.
No liability for anyone else then.

Sensible idea, but the state doesn't want people making decisions for themselves - (and - to be honest, nor does the consumer - they are happy with individual choice until it all goes wrong - then they want someone else to pay)

They want 'collective control', 'for the general good' and other such devices to keep people in line and under control
