Anyone use a .375H&H or larger on UK species?

Is anyone conditioned to use a .375H&H or larger on UK deer/boar? I know some will say that’s complete over kill etc, but good to get some practice on live quarry prior to a Safari. Sorry if this has been asked before, couldn’t find anything newer than 2010. Thanks

I have a 9.3x62 I've used on UK quarry. Go for it. Dead is dead and there is no legal maximum for these so if you are conditioned, have at it.

Scrummy

I tried for a .375 H&H at my last renewal, specifically for Boar in the FOD, something I actually do. They would not even entertain a discussion on the subject. I did get my .17 HMR approved, by way of consolation.

and.....there is no such thing as overkill, any weapon that produces a quick and humane dispatch of your target is OK. The only question you may get is whether another (often smaller) calibre would be able to produce the same quick and humane dispatch. If I am honest the squirrel I shot with it yesterday would probably be just as dead if I had used my .22RF.

Too bad. Even if they gave you 2 x .17s, that would still only get to .34 - still under .375.
80yrds and it was most definitely a fast and humane dispatch for the little grain stealing tree rat!
Was the squirrel up a tree? If so, how much firewood did you collect, after the squirrel turned into red mist?

Yeah but that’s classy as hell

see now that’s the question I didn’t want to answer....
The little bugger was on one of my feeders and seemed to know that I wouldn’t shoot it while it was in it. So I waited and eventually it moved to the base of the small adjacent tree so I shot it.....should have looked up because another tree had fallen and was leaning on the tree with the squirrel so my shot dislodged the fallen tree which came down and smashed my feeder.

most expensive squirrel I will ever shoot!

An image comes to mind of Jeremy Clarkson screaming "Power" as he drifts sideways round a corner of a race track in a very expensive car.

Just before he rolls it 3 or 4 times.

yep, all good safe fun though. Great backstop shooting down into a fold of land with a steep tree covered slope climbing up behind it and no footpaths for miles. Just really annoyed that it was a feeder I had only built the day before so it was full of grain and beans.

I can confirm that the squirrel in question will not be taking anymore of my grain.......including the 100kg now laying on the floor!:banghead:
