January Africa trip

Lots of us hoping to get out to SA or Namibia some of us sitting on cancelled trips from 2020 and air ticket vouchers. The issue is when will we be able to go, European travel looking unlikely this summer, most African countries are firmly on the U.K. Red List, SA, Namibia and Tanzania etc. I had hopes of going back end of this year but that’s not looking good maybe March of 2022

IMHO anyone planning to go this year is optimistic in the extreme, while our vaccination program is going well when you listen to the various ministers they are still concerned about travellers bringing back different variations/mutations of the virus. Plus on the Government Red List that’s most of Africa. I speak as a guy hoping to go to Namibia for a cancelled trip from last year in Oct/Nov this year but in reality I can’t see it happening, I look forward to being wrong

ATM, HMG is going down the traffic light (robot) system. Most of Africa ( excl' North African Mediterranean coastline ) countries are on the red list - no non essential travel. Even if they go down to amber it would still be 10 nights quarrantine @ £2k. So I am resigned to not going this year.

Until the world has got herd immunity or been vaccinated , preferably with the modified vaccine to cope with the variant strains, this pandemic ain't going away any time soon I fear.

in some or all African countries we only will get the vaccination / jabs to all in next 10 to 15 years from now...then this would be too late for some of our hunters

Why will next year or the year thereafter be more favorable than this year if the statistics of getting vaccinated are 'written on the wall'...just my £0.02

Spoke to my good friend who is a PH in SA yesterday and the whole vaccination system out there is a total cock up, and covid is pretty rife. Although being in camp on safari you will as a rule be fairly well away from people, its getting there that is the issue, flights etc.
Cant see a great deal changing at the moment, but hopefully by the end of this year it might be safe to go.

It’s a good £0.02p sadly keen as many of us are to get back out to SA and Namibia it’s out of our control we are now in the hands of politicians (Normally best avoided) both at home and abroad

The issue isn’t so much getting there as what happens when you get back?
Unless SA sort their sh1t out we’ll have to quarantine on the way back.
OK if you can work from home, otherwise it’s using up more annual leave.

Its really difficult to have any real clue or make any real plans.

The biggest challenge is that the AstraZeneca Vaccine doesn’t seem to have much effect against South African variants of Covid-19.

So even if you are fully vaccinated in the UK you may well still be pretty susceptible.

And from the UK perspective we really don’t want those variants over here.

Australia and New Zealand are not looking to allow international travel much before 2023.

Keep in mind...hunting concessions are not based in any city, towns or any public places...it is in the bush! Nobody else to see for miles and miles, only my ugly face...Contracting Covid-19 will be unlikely! A Hangover possible!
