Which pickup

Hi guys

Sorry if this has been done to death, but looking to getting myself a pickup shortly.

My budget would be set at a maximum of £10k but ideally lower if I can get away with it. With the £10k I would be stretching as also need to buy another car for the work commute.

For say something between £7k-£10k what would be the suggestions?

I was originally thinking of a L200 or possibly a Hilux though these seem to hold serious money. Also thought about the D Max.

Well what do you need it for? Different needs means different options.
Its for deer stalking really. The grounds I am on require a 4x4 and I dont fancy the beasts in with me.

I will also use it for other chores and have my little man in with me on adventures.

Hi colinbr, I posted this very question going back a few months ago with the intention of spending a lot less than I actually ended up spending and I think it genuinely depends on pass trucks ( with good experience) and personally preference I ended going for the Hilux myself tbh I’m going to get slated cuz Toyota Hilux owners rave about them but I except L200 owners wouldn’t touch a hilux and neither would a warrior owner and so on . After a LOT of research I went for the invincible and yes they are rude money but although they are now like a off road comfortable car I think the reliability is in the name, and yes there are loads of guys that have had a bad experience but I even went a step further and purchased a private plate for it . Hope You find what’s good for you and ya have lots of fun with it .

I have no previous experience with pickups myself. I have my van and my current car (which I am selling to fund the pickup and another car for the commute)

Bag ross's hilux in the classifieds, 15 reg an a touch past 10k but worth the extra as you'll get it back when you move it on..

Aye I seen that and its only 90 mins up the road from me.
Just a bit over my budget. I don't tend to sell things on, so wouldn't gain the outlay back.
My old van is testimony to that.

You could look for ex forestry pickups. Already converted, but as it is a limited market potentially less than the equivalent age/model.

My 61 reg isuzu rodeo will be for sale in October when my hilux arrives, probably be 7ish with a checker plate rear canopy that's got a shooting hatch in.

I've heard good things of the Isuzu's.
Out of interest what sort of MPG do you get out of yours?

If you only take one piece of advice from this thread, this is it:

Don’t buy a navara. Ever.

(Unless you’re a welder and get free use of the works equipment, and love welding more than shooting)

Haha. Pretty much what I've heard.

It's definitely worth getting underneath any prospective purchase and closely examining the chassis and rear tub for corrosion or attempts to disguise it.
Unfortunately these are all commercial vehicles and not built to last.
Says me with a seven year old Hilux with 103k miles and still drives like a truck half its age.
