Can anyone help with a metal base plate and handle for an arbor press?

I have one of these presses that I use for various tasks in the workshop:

I really like it, however it is designed to work with some additional parts for ribbon cutting, crimping, etc. that fix to the base. My use for it is much simpler, just requiring it as a general press.

Sadly I have only the basics of metalworking skills (i.e. I can just about use a tap and die set) and so I was wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to make up a flat base for me that could be fixed to the top of the base and that the ram can then press down onto? I am using a piece of scrap sheet at the moment, which is workable but ugly.

From my perspective (which, to be fair, may well not be the right one) I think it just requires a piece of perhaps 3mm steel plate (presuming that is sufficiently thick), measuring 90mm x 40mm, with two 7mm holes drilled 56.52mm apart (centre to centre) at half the depth front to back (i.e. 20mm). These holes are for fixing the plate to the base using a couple of 1/4-20 screws that will go into the pre-drilled holes that can be seen in the picture.

At the same time I'd ideally like a 25cm length of 11mm steel bar, tapped M10 at both ends - that way I can attach a couple of round bakelite handles (like these: Knob Vifer Round Ball Bakelite Lever Knob M10*35 Machine Tool Replacement 5Pcs: Amazon.co.uk: Business, Industry & Science) which will aid applying pressure when using the press and also stop the handle slipping out of the hole. It will also look nicer than the bare metal bar that is currently in situ!

The technical diagram for the press can be found here: https://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data Sheets/PanaVise PDFs/502 Drawing.pdf

Of course I am very happy to pay for time, materials, etc.

@willie_gunn I think that I can help within a week or two. I have some 6mm thick stainless flat bar and I'm sure I can find some strong round bar for the lever.

That would be great, thank you.

There's certainly no rush, as I've managed fine for a couple of years already - it's just one of those things that niggles away at me every time I use the press.

A huge thank you to @takbok for both his skill and generosity in helping me out with this request. :tiphat:

I returned from holiday to find a parcel awaiting me containing a new metal plate and bar for the press.

Beautfully machined and finished, and when fitted today the press now absolutely looks the bee's knees!! Moreover it has made the press a pleasure to use.

A real testament to the kindness of members here on SD :thumb:
