Tidying a wood. Help needed.

I did a lot of forest thinning when I had the forest property. Used a big brush cutter/ strimmer fitted with a saw blade. That would tackle a 4" tree with ease. Using a brush cutter keeps the sharp end well away from the operator. With practice you can get the brush to fall in neat rows.

Wot jagarr says above is good advice, a decent brush cutter will handle a lot of that very easily. Seen my felling 6" 20 or 30ft tall birch with mine with a saw blade on, not ideal but doable.
If u have a brair/bramble problem the mulcher/shredder blades are an absolute game changer, the curved ends make a massive difference.

1 thing i will say 1/2 acre is not that big ( roughly half a fitba pitch)
U say its very productive as it is, well for stalking.
If it aibt broke dont try to fix it.
Wot is ur actually long term aim?
If its to maximise stalking it sounds like it already is pretty good habitat.

Depends wot u end up doing but often 'tidying' a wood can have a negative effect on wildlife habitat.

Just saying just be careful u could make it worse thinking ur inproving it.
It sounds luje nych of ur woodland is coplice so wotever u do in a few years it will grow back.

If ur working in the woods, always a good idea to have a spare bar and chain in ur bag beside ur combi can.

If u ever get ur saw nipped u can easily ( esp with a stihl, not so easy with small huskys with an external clutch) take powerhead off and cut urself out.
A silky/hand/folding saw can be handy too esp in smaller timber.

If ur moving, man handling and stacking logs id treat urself to a pickaroon.
Im quite new to them but bloody handy things.
Amazing the logs u can lift easily 1 handed with them.
I will say if u buy 1 u want the hoijy point to be round rather than cut from a flat oiece of sheet metal.
Stick in far better ( stihl or husky 1s or cheapo unbreanded from chris forestry are the better 1s)
