Left handed bolt actions

I was forced to shoot RH in the army, and I resented it, having previously shot to a high standard off my left shoulder.

I've had several LH rifles over the years, and one RH on a stock fitted for a Lefty. Mainly Sako, Heym, Sauer, and a couple of customs. As 10% of us are LH I've never understood why they are scarce, when the demand is there.
Heym make most of their offerings in LH, and are a superb rifle. You frequently find them at Holts auction at very sensible prices.

Shooting a RH bolt rifle is no issue, but why compromise?

Been doing a bit of digging and wondered if a kipplauf rifle in 243 or 6.5x55 would be a better choice?

I'm left handed and shoot both LH and RH bolt action rifles, have a Tikka T3 .308 in LH, a Howa 22-250 in RH, CZ .17HMR in RH and a PCP air rifle in LH. All the stocks are ambidextrous so accuracy doesn't seem compromised, however, a rapid 2nd shot requires a little remembering which action I'm using. I've had a 12bore Benelli LH auto and a Franchai 12 bore RH auto, thought the ejection would be an issue but wasn't noticeable.

Some years ago as a lefty I went for a Ruger No1V. It was a superbly accurate rifle. Now I own a T3 LH And a Browning A Bolt LH. I wish Mauser had made the 98 action in left handed !

Savage arms were the first major rifle maker of true LH rifles. They offer a large selction in all calibres. Very good rifles in my experience. My son is RH with left master eye and has both RH and LH weapons. He would prefer to shoot off his left shoulder.

Zastava make a lefthand version of the venerable 98 - if you can convince someone to import them to the UK.

To address the OPs original question - for full power centrefire cartridges get a true left handed rifle if that's how you're going to shoot it.

This talk of being able to keep your trigger hand on the rifle and cycle the bolt with your supporting hand is great when it's practical, and really sucks when it isn't. My issue was that in most cases cycling a right handed bolt caught the web of my left hand, and I had to disturb my shooting position anyway. On a rimfire the bolt travel was short enough that this wasn't an issue, or a centrefire with a left handed or ambidextrous thumbhole stock and a bipod or other good rest it does indeed make for a slick way to shoot with minimal disturbance to position and hold. But I have only found that to be effective when you can guarantee that your shots will be from a seated, prone, or otherwise supported position - which is probably not ideal if you are looking at one rifle for all your deer stalking... YMMV

Thanks all, will be looking for a true left hander when my ticket comes through in 6.5x55.

Shames Mauser dont do the M12 as a leftie!

They definitely don't and when I spoke to a mauser rep they have no into catering for lefties!!!
Unghh! That’s pretty pathetic. Perhaps I am miss-remembering, but I thought I remembered seeing left handed Mausers on gunbroker etc. Always beyond my price bracket for a rifle anyway. I ended up with a LH Rem 700 and I couldn’t have shot any better with anything else, although I recognize that some 700s had genuine problems, mine just made me look a much better rifleman than I really am!

So I see. Somehow I expect more from a company like Mauser….
And their subsidary, Rigby makes the very nice Highland Stalker in Right Hand. It’s a nice good rifle in the sub £10k price point.

They will do a stock with a left handed cheek piece, but if you want a proper left handed rifle with a true left hand mauser action you have to go the London Best. Which is a very beautiful hand built rifle starting at £25k. :)

I think you could get a true lefty Mauser put together for less money.
I purchased a true LH Magnum Mauser Double Square Bridge action from Reimer Johanssen and had a 375H&H built by the late Ron Wharton for a little over £12k including H&H style mounts, albeit 12 years ago.
Various action makers will do a LH Mauser action at various lengths.

There was a place in Suffolk that made Mauser clones, but at an eye watering amount of money.
