FAC Air - Rapid 7

Has anyone got much experience in FAC air, particularly the Rapid 7? Are the early MK1s still OK to shoot even though not regulated? Or is it better to look for a MK2?

A well balanced mk1 with fast flow can be just as consistent as a mk2 with reg mate. I had a mk2 .25 that was regged and if I could've got it balanced with the fast flow I'd have gone that route

Workhorses and easy to tune/tweak

I have a Rapid 7 Mk1 .22. Built as sub 12 but converted to FAC in 1997. Still has original 16” barrel so some loss of velocity. Tuned to just under 30 Ft Lbs. Zero to 50 metres, using .22 Bisley Magnum, and keeping to 50 shots with 400cc bottle retains velocity & power out to 70 metres. In all honesty never missed a beat and never let me down.

Far better FAC air about now days . I am afraid rapids are old hat now , although you will get a few say different.

Just upgraded from a well sorted MK1 Rapid to FX Crown and to be honest I am well happy , the Rapid was very good but 20 plus years of development really shows when you shoot the FX

I have a Rapid in 22 running at 42 ftlb, its fitted with a 500cc carbon bottle plus a Hume regulator, ( lockdown project)
it shoots HN 21g slugs and its awesome, drops crows at 85yds without any problem, its never missed a beat in 15years ,
you here so many people moaning about FX , so ill keep the Rapid .

You hear more moan about FX for a few reasons , probably more fx guns are being sold than any other gun at the moment , some tinker with them without knowing what they are doing , and like any other gun , you do get problems. The worst manufacturer is daystate for problems

No I bloody don’t overrated, overpriced crap and yes I had two and both went back because of problems , in fact out of 6 weeks of owning one of them , daystate had it 4 out of the six weeks

I appreciate there are newer, possibly better airguns to be had, but for the use its going to get, I'd prefer the Rapid.

the fac mk1’s are fast flow, standard 12ft lb models aren’t. Also, fac have a longer barrel. To be honest, they’re great, maybe a little agricultural by today’s standards and the fx’s are definitely more advanced and refined. In fact, my impact mk2 fac has a phenomenal shot count, even set at 40ft lbs plus. Having said that, a well set up fac rapid will do the job for you without doubt. I wouldn’t want to part with my rapid even if it is a bit long in the tooth

Just a thought, fx royale fac might be worth a look at nearer to rapid money?

A friend has just bought a .25 and a .22 FAC Kral, and for the money cracking bit of kit.

I can strip and rebuild a rapid in a matter of minutes..bet you won't do that with more modern guns..rapids work..I have 3 in fac format and I can assure ya I won't spend more money on anything more modern...

There's been some great examples on Guntrader/Gunstar recently for very little money. I got an immaculate factory FAC Rapid 7 with CS stock a month ago for less than half the price of the new MK3 wildcat i bought last November and it shoots better. Makes me question why i got rid of my Rapids years ago.

I've seen the same! I'm still wondering if the MK2 is worth the extra, compared to the MK1?!
