If you want any grommets to hold them together just say so. I bought a box of them and then couldn't find them when I needed them so bought another box. Yep, you guessed it, I have found the first box. I have nearly two hundred of them now. Should last me about ten lifetimes of stalking. I have so many that I actually used two for what they're made for, protecting cables going through a metal socket!

keep your eyes open for sako 75 or even the 85 both good rifles, select a caliber you can suit to your deer species you can stalk, any legal deer calibre 243 and above is perfectly sufficient providing shot placement is there which brings you swiftly back to rifle make, calibre and scope again, take your time and try and get the one you feel right with, contrary to old wives tales you don’t have to change your rifle every six months, stick with it and will grow on you

A proper stalking setup

This was some Hornady Whitetail 129gr at 200yrds.

Couldn't do a 3 shot group as the 2nd round blew the plate out of the bank.

get into a decent size shop and get your hands on them.
I did this with a starting choice of Howa 1500, Tikka T3, Browning XBolt and Sako (A7 I think).
Ended up with the Browning and have had no regrets

Why?

they 100% have the best light gathering so will let your shoot earlier in the morning and later in the evening, this is the time most deer move and you are likely to shoot more deer.

What 8*56 would you recommend? I'm in a very similar position on buying my first rifle in the same calibre most likely going for a tika or howa but scope and sound mod still up in the air about so opinions on both would be great.

Any of the big 3 German 8x56 will do the job well, if budget is tight the meopta 7x50 is also a good choice.

If going secondhand make sure the lenses are in very good/prefect condition.

As for moderators I am an ASE Utra man, the jet -z is and would always be my recommendation (unless you can’t cope with a little weight) but these are now discontinued. If a lighter mod is required then the SL5 is excellent; I have 3 of each….
