The design of the action is of a system...the Martini breech...that pre-dates even 1888! Your gun though is modern. 20th Century. The crossed symbol has two letters that tell the date it went to proof. See my pinned post Proof Date Codes at the head of this forum section of SD.

My first shotgun was a Greener GP with a 24" barrel Cylinder choke. Bought in 1973 for £20. The fifth photo shows the big screw which could be unscrewed with a coin and the barrel then unscrewed off the action. Handy as both parts fit in the poacher pockets of my Barbour jacket. My first - and only - Grouse fell to it on Warcop training area.
I was a naughty boy, but it tasted lovely.

I had a 32” one when I was a kid and used 30g 4’s and aimed it like a rifle at pigeons and rooks sittings in trees after stalking them. Did ok with it but it recoiled a bit but when young you didn’t care about that

I had one
Himax no4 shot after ducks let you know you was firing it
I had one too , they do kick . They're a solid old gun that used to be fairly common out here at one time but , lately , are getting hard to find . They've always been popular to use in 45/70 conversions , I had one of those too ......... and it still kicked . Nice old shotgun .

I checked on a few UK dealer sites , the price varies from 150 pounds for a well used one , to 300 + for a higher condition gun . It doesn't happen often , but that's what they go for around here as well . I'm intrigued by the thought of turning one of these into a switch barrel rifled slug gun . It would be a very straight forward conversion , I even have a rifled 12 gauge barrel blank somewhere in the pile . Looks like I have another winter project .

I have a nice Greener GP dating from 1963 - Greener sold out to Webley in 1964 and Webley continued to make the GP until around 1980 with a few minor changes. I believe on the Webley made GP's the action cross pins are retained by external circlips and usually considered no so desirable..
I also believe the OP's Greener (318XX) dates from1957.

Kick like a mule, I have my father’s from 1958 my brother had it refurbished, price is irrelevant , last used on a fox drive three yrs ago.

You are incorrect in you dates, having checked the Greener book the Gp was made from 1922-1998. You serial number is in the 1957 range which was 31730 -35559. Hope this helps

I had the model with the multi choke as well. At least 50 years ago and I think I bought it in a auction. Mine only had one choke tube with it. Used it on quite a few beaters days. Not thought about that shotgun for many years.

Only one I owned was one of the Police models.
Wish I'd kept it

Best one I saw was on a dealer table at Bisley
In a travel case, it came with a 32" barrel for rough shooting & the like AND a 24" rifle sighted barrel for slug use.
Really with I'd bought that one - not seen any other rifle sighted versions, so must have been a one-off; perfect for the slug comps. though
