I’ve seen on the news today that folk are trying to get the government to implement ‘plan b’ with regards to covid restrictions. Back to wearing masks and not meeting indoors? Even some talking about winter lockdowns? I thought the vaccine was supposed to end all of this hiding in our houses? They’re talking about third injections. Is it never going to end?

I was in Germany a few weeks ago, and mask-wearing for indoor public areas (shops, public transport etc.) is accepted and maintainted. Those who are either jabbed, have had it and recovered or have a negative test within 48hrs previously can go into restaurants etc, where masks are not mandatory,
There is a degree of bias, of course - I'm hoping to go back to Germany in a month to do some shooting. The way things are going, I think I'll be lucky even to get to Invernessshire for the hinds.
We might remember that Boris 'saved' Christmas last year, and I'm rather worried he's going to 'save' my sporting hols in a similar way this year. I'm even beginning to wonder whether the Rasputin's nerdy bedwetters are in fact the pathetic whingers who have a great big hissy-fit at the thought of someone making them put a little mask on to go into a shop.
It's all fine in you never want to leave home ever again - but Boris cannot, alas, stop Abroad from stopping us going there: and Abroad (speaking as an Englischman) in this context includes Wales and Scotland: and possibly the next county, if the same plan of salvation used last year is anything to go by.

It is quite striking here in London how despite mask wearing being mandatory on public transport (but with no means of enforcement), most people just don't. Many continue to take sensible and frankly easy precautions like mask wearing, washing/sanitising hands, a degree of social distancing, avoiding crowded spaces etc, but equally many just dropped the whole thing the moment they could. As you say @Dalua, I'm glad we didn't make any plans to go to France this Christmas because it's looking dicey.

They keep mentioning it to coerce more people to take up their booster. If Plan B comes in it'll also be used a a campaign to divide the public for not getting the vaccine.
Its the same as when they started peddling the threats of no face to face teaching for unvaccinated children a few weeks ago.

Vaccines are a way of minimising risk of serious illness from Covid. Experience from Israel, who started their vaccine program before us, shows there is a significant reduction in vaccine effectiveness after six months. They brought in a booster program with good uptake and managed to control disease better. They also brought in mask wearing, as have many other countries.
My feeling is we should all be wearing masks where we can, maintaining social distance if possible and take up the offer of vaccines as soon as possible.
This disease is with us to stay and we have to learn to live with it. We cannot expect to go back to how we behaved before Covid-19 for many years yet (if ever). It is the behaviour of the British public which has caused the recent rise in cases and the frustration in the Health ministers voice yesterday was testament to this.
Get your jab, wear a mask in public, wash your hands and if you do mix in crowds check lateral flows twice a week. If they are positive make sure your PCR test isn’t sent to Wolverhampton !

I cant see why not, we need to accept that its barely dangerous to the vast majority of people, treat it like the flu and move on.
Thats the sort of gaslighting the government and the news like to peddle.
Testing for the sake of testing just drives up the numbers they love to print everyday, its not helpful.
Try n get a booster??our " overworked" doctors surgery won't let you book it .They will call you when they're ready.

This is the real misinformation.
This is NOT like the flu. It kills more people, uses up more health resources and leaves many with lasting illness.
Looking at yesterday’s figures on average one hospital ward per hospital is taken up looking after Covid cases. Not just beds but nurses and doctors. This means than one less ward is able to treat patients with life threatening illnesses like Cancer. Look at the news and the queues outside A&E this is because of Covid taking up resources. As a consequence of Covid more people are dying from cancer and heart attacks because the system is stretched. It is thought that more people will die from lack of resources in the NHS because of Covid than from Covid itself.
You might not be unwell but in the twenty you infect one might be and they will take up valuable resources and affect the lives of others. All of this is avoidable if people stop thinking about themselves and think of others.
My grandfather fought in both wars and I am sure he was ordered to do things he didn’t want to but he obeyed for the greater good. We are at the same crossroads now. If people did what was asked of them without question we would as a country be in a better place.

There are supply issues with flu and Covid vaccines as with many other things (petrol,food…) so it might not be the exhausted NHS staff that deserves your sarcasm and anger rather maybe those who voted Brexit!
Yes - it is undoubtedly a Government plan to break the spirit of the British People by forcing them to wear masks in indoor public places.
How dare they consider cruelly depriving freeborn British citizens of their natural right to oblige others to inhale their contaminated droplets?
