Question about the correct process for transferring one of my section two shotguns into my section one shotgun slot

Hi Everyone,

I own a section 1 Browning Auto5 which has seen heavy use and getting a bit battered and worn internally (it only cycles heavy cartridges now which kick uncomfortably on of my shoulder) so I will probably donate it for spares to an RFD. I also own a section 2 Browning Auto5 which is less heavily used so it would make sense for that to become my section 1 slot shotgun (take out the crimp and enter on my FAC). My question is therefore, what is the correct process for doing this? Can I take out the crimp myself or does it have to be done by an RFD?

Thank you!

Thanks Eddie - but if I stripped my current section 1 shotgun for spares, I would still own it, so does that mean it still occupies the section 1 slot on my FAC? As I need that slot to be free to receive my section 2 shotgun when it is reclassified as a section 1 shotgun.

1. Dispose of your existing S1 shotgun and notify your FLU, at the same time requesting a "1 for 1" variation to allow you to acquire a new S1 shotgun.
2. Carry out the conversion, and notify your FLU of the disposal of one S2 shotgun from your SGC and acquisition of one S1 shotgun onto your FAC. Include an explanatory note that the gun has been permanently converted to Section 1 spec.

3. Go shooting.

Hi all

Sorry to hack the post, I'm looking at doing the opposite, I have 5 auto as a section 1 but only want it as a section 2.

That would be my thought on the S1

I think it's only the serialised receiver that's got an uncrimped tube is the S1 part. I believe everything else you can keep as spares but might be worth asking BASC or your other association.

As above, get the 1 for 1 on disposal and buy the S1 Auto 5 you'd like.

Have a word with Stuart Gosney (Gunsmith | North Yorkshire, UK | Sgosney-gunsmith) as he's something of an Auto 5 specialist and I've found helpful.

Scrummy

This needs to be done by an RFD it may also need to go to proof house and same to change back. At least that's what north yorkshire police wanted.

Seem to remember reading that you now cannot downgrade. Once section 1 allways section 1.
May be wrong but don't think so
That's what I heard too. In my case, relating to an air rifle that was tuned up to FAC level and entered on ticket. Couldn't then be removed from Section 1, even if the power was wound down again to below FAC levels.

Can't see how you cannot go from s1 to s2 as that's exactly what we had to do in terms of crimping the tube when the law changed & my 5 shot had to be restricted to 3. Gun went to an RFD who did the work, then submitted for 'proof' & came back with a certificate to confirm it'd been restricted so then s2.

Pushing the crimp out of a s2 tube won't be that easy either.

You can strip and keep all of the non licenced parts (anything not pressure bearing) and scrap the rest

Nope, replacing with an uncrimped tube would be easier

Yep, not possible to downgrade
Entirely possible, My RFD does it with air rifles often as they are worth more off of section one. This is one and the same RFD that the county police department (same town as HQ) use for disposals and destruction of firearms so they would not be doing anything against the law.

You can put it on your own fac if you have a slot and then remove the crimp or use the other guns mag tube .
I would also strip the knackered gun down for spare parts as they are getting hard to get from the USA . Then you only have to hand in a receiver .

17mm socket on a bar works to knock out the crimp .If it doesn't work the tube snaps in two but normally it works.

Receiver, bolt and, going on a recent thread, barrel too
