Hornet twist rate?

1-16" would be a safe bet. I think I measured mine and that was the rate. I see Anschutz is listing some of the new Hornets with 1-14" twists.~Muir

I thought I was as to the age of the rifle, , yeah would love a new one maybe some time down the road as mine is still going strong 👍

Use a cleaning rod with a tightish wad.
Push the rod into barrel from the muzzle a few inches and make a mark around the rod where it enters the barrel.
Attach a piece of insulating tape to the rod near the handle to act as a flag and get it pointing upwards (at the 12 o clock position)
Push the rod into the barrel until the flag makes one complete revolution and make another mark on the rod where it enters the barrel.
Remove the rod and measure the distance between the 2 marks - that distance in inches is the twist rate.

Cheers

I sold mine and bought a CZ. The CZ isn't as pretty but the chamber is tighter and the performance, better. ~Muir

I don't have any 1st hand experience with the 222 CZ but a quick Googleation of the question says Pre 2002: 1/12", Post 2002 1-9" ~Muir

Many thanks , ill check to see if a date is stamped on rifle or cross reference with serial number. Cheers david

hi muir . ive a 222 cz 527 would you know the twist rate on that .
I'm sure this query has come up before. :-|
From the CZUB.CZ 'catalogue archives' . . 2014 doesn't show twist-rates at all, 2015 catalogue has 1:14" (.222) and 1:9" (.223).
The .223 changed from 1:12" to 1:9", but the .222 remained 1:14" until CZ dropped the chambering in 2018.
Box
(2015 -page 43)

  • 2014 - CZ527 American LH - .204, .223 LUX .223 - twist rates not shown
  • 2015-2018 CZ527 American LH - .204, .223 LUX .223 - 1:9" twist rate
  • 2019 - New CZ527 models appear - calibres discontinued - .223 LH version ceased

You are correct. I just double checked the Google source and found I'd been reading 223 specs. I wondered about that 1-9 for a deuce but then, CZ has made a handful of twists in the 223 including 1-10" which you seldom see listed. I assumed they were following suit....~Muir
