Moving house, what to do with rifles etc.

Putting therm all in temporarily storage with a RFD is of course the most secure and gives you the opportunity to deal with all the things that happen on moving day without worrying about firearms safety.

However, if you move your gunsafe location within your property, or to a new property, I believe you have to inform the Police within 7 days. Providing you install your gunsafe in the new property before moving the firearms (you'll need a new safe for that) or move your firearms and safe and re-install on the same day, I think that would be acceptable.

No there is no law regarding moving your safe, I did mine recently and had the convo with the Licencing team and they advised they stopped that practise a good few yrs back and is not a legal requirement.
His opinion was, they check it the first time to ascertain you know HOW to fix them in properly, once they are satisfied with this they do not need to check again.
I would expect moving to a new county, possibly even a new house may be different, I can only go on what I was told a couple of weeks ago

You don’t have to inform the police if you move it in the same property

Thanks for all the replies. Never had an issue when moving around the UK, and do not think Thames Valley even came out when I moved.
I will pop the shotguns and Riffles to the local RFD as it takes some pressure of and is only £10 for the week. Going to drill into the concreate floor and use 2 pack resin also into a stud. This should do.

I think sometimes people tell the authorities to much
In almost 50 years of gun ownership i have moved house 5 times and never told them anything until guns where permanently secured in new property.
Prior to notification which was always within 7 days I just kept the guns as secure as i could .
Never had any bother

Just moved myself. Bolted cabinets in firearms and shotgun. Told police 1 week later they came round all ok then gave licenses in 2 weeks late returned all done. Well done South Wales police force.

You do not have to inform the police if you move your cabinet in your own property. If you change your permanent address you must inform them 'without undue delay' by email or in writing.

It isn't hard, last time I moved I bagged all the guns and unbolted all 6, 10 gun and an 18 gun cabinet before the movers arrived loaded the guns into my vehicle and the movers took the first load including the cabinets to the new house. Took the guns up into the room and the cabinets then bolted them to the walls and put the guns away. Just over 3 hours and all done. Then back to get the ammo safes and same process.

I have moved, a number of times with high count firearms (teens), I secured in transit, secured in cabinet and fixed within a reasonable timeframe. Then I advised FAD of move, allways had a visit, but not till weeks/ months/ renewal later. Never been an issue. The only issue is what you make of it.

Whilst serving in the military I moved around quite a bit and took my firearms, handguns in those days, and stored them in the camps armouries to which I had access by virtue of occupation.
On one move from Wilts to Hants I duly informed the police of arrangements for my firearms. I get a visit from the police to inspect the premises, all good, I then get a visit from the Military Police, all good, but licensing did not seem to be satisfied with this so the FLO had to come out and inspect the armoury In person. Talk about thorough.
Jeeesh, the armoury contained over 800 military weapons I don’t think my handguns would have been on any thieves agenda.

Do all of you guys live in 1950s East Germany ?

Meanwhile crime gangs are importing Glocks by the container load...

Agreed. The hardest part of getting the cabinets in was butchering the skirting board so the cabinet could go back to the wall. Even having to do that it probably only took half an hour to get the cabinets in
Make a step out of 2 small bits of. 2x4 and ply and put the cabinet on top and bolt to the wall.

No wood butchery of the skirting rqd.

Not being funny but what is it with guns and faffing about?

Its as simple as this -

Guns out
Cabinet off the wall
Cabinet on wall of new house
Guns in
Lock door
Call firearms dept to update address

Simples!

Now where did you get that little gem from. You do not have to inform them at all if you move your gunsafe within your house, only if you change address
