CZ 550 Dovetail Recoil Lug - Do I Need To Use It?

Evening all,

I’m getting a new scope for my CZ 550 (7x57) and am exploring mount options for it. It’s currently wearing a Hillver base and 1” rings. I’ll most likely end up needing 34mm rings. I spoke to Norman Clarke today and they don’t have anything that’d suit.

The guy on the phone said I’d need to use the recoil lug (that’s built into the dovetail) with whichever scope mounts I use. I assumed I wouldn’t have to, necessarily. Using it would be a bonus but I didn’t think it was mandatory.

Could any of the wiser members on here advise me either way?

If as mentioned above you are prepared to go for a scope with a 30mm, 26mm or 1” tube, then look no further than Conetrol bases and rings. They will do the job you require and also look awesome on what is a classic walnut & blued steel sporting rifle from the pictures I have seen of the 550.

If you must install a S&B or Zeiss 34mm tubed scope I haven’t a clue what to suggest but no doubt someone will be along with the perfect solution that involves the word “rail”.

I had a look at the Conetrol website earlier and unfortunately they don’t do a 34mm option!

Will probably go with something like this - Mount CZ550/557, 1-piece, 25.4mm, V1

I have warne mounts on my BRNO but that is a 30mm tube. Perhaps they do 34mm? Talley would also be worth a look
