It's pretty standard here that convictions for impaired driving will make it difficult to get a firearms licence . From what I've seen , it can be up to 10 years before you will be considered eligible . By then , you've either straightened your self out or re-offended and restarted the ineligible period . Impaired driving causing death is another story , your life is over . I don't have a problem with giving someone a second chance , as long as they earn it . Someone who has multiple recent convictions has a bit of growing up to do , when they do , however , I can't see any reason not to grant them a licence . YMMV .
